No one knows his birthday for he was born in Slavery...
We are talking about Missouri, 1860's...

He was just a week old, when he along with his mother and sister were 'stolen' from Arkansas and 'sold'..as slaves in market of Kentucky ..1/n #SciStory
His parents were already purchased for 700$ by German American immigrant , the Master negotiates with the new buyer in Kentucky and could only get him back...he would never see his mother or sister again..
He was a week old infant. 2/n
While working in the farm and doing house chores he learnt basics of reading and writing..from 'Aunt'
Meanwhile Slavery was abolished
'Blacks' were though not allowed in neighborhood Public school...
Kid walked 16 kms away to find school closed...
The young boy slept in the near by barn as school was closed only to meet kind woman next morning who told him
"You must learn all you can, then go back out into the world and give your learning back to the people"
Inspiring words which became his destiny 5/n
13yr old relocates to Kansas for his education living with another foster family
However seeing a 'black' man killed soon moves to different town and over time does his diploma..
Though selected in one of college out of many he applied..he was rejected on arrival for his 'race'
Meanwhile US govt opened its farmland ...
He would manually plough 17 acres of land rice, corn, trees...also maintaing a conservatory of plants and geological collection..
He would also do odd jobs like cattle grazing etc..to meet his expenses
About 22 yr old... taking education loan he started studying Arts, Piano and Botany..
Soon he became First black student in Iowa State...he did his bachelor's in Agriculture and continued doing experiments for his master's..doing so he got national RECOGNITION as a Botanist ..
Imagine how much Just being 'recognised'...would ve meant to that life ..
Finishing his Master's he goes on to vec first 'black' Faculty in Iowa State...
In 1886 in his early 20's he meets the famous hero Booker T Washington who invites him to join his institute...as head of Agriculture dept.

He would go on to serve it for next 47 yrs..
He would go on to make dept. Into flourishing research centre ...
introducing crop rotation, soil maintenance emphasizing on Products out of crops.. training young students on farming techniques..

Giving all life had taught him in farms by hard toil ..
He designs a Mobile classroom to take Education into fields...
Training farmers on agriculture practices
Introducing new crops..altering crops to fix soil
Soon he founds his own Industrial Research Lab...
Here Crops would be turn into Products.. developing 100s of applications
Soon his lab would be pursuing fundamental research coming up with agriculture methods..promoting new crops and recipes of new products to farmers using mobile wagon and agriculture bulletins..
go on to train 100s of farmers and becoming Public Figure himself on the journey
1920 he demonstrated 145 applications of peanut.. advising Industrialist and giving skills and knowledge to farmers to produce products from their own crops... appreciated by President US..being only Afro-American in the committee and being mocked at ..his fame grew...
Made member of Royal Society of Arts ..three US president met him... Widely participated in creating Harmony as a public figure..till the end remained a researcher promoting new products of peanut..
His methods widely implemented made youths self reliant and farmers coming out of poverty..today US is world's third largest producer .. exporting 25% of Peanut..with 60% of peanut being made into peanut butter..
Contribution of a scientist who was sold and traded for a horse !
He used to.introduced himself as Carver's George...Carver was Master of this enslaved son...
from being Sold out as week old infant to be slave in farm to be the Agricultural Scientist giving back to the Nation in ways which the Nation is still reaping benefits of!
