1/ Childhood memories of curfews, bunkers, & school ‘shelters’ are resurfacing. I guess I’m not as panicky now; no virus brings back the fear of humans with guns and bombs. But, I’m grateful for the memories of humanity’s capacity to support one another in times of emergency.
2/ This time maybe especially traumatic for some of our newcomers/refugees/migrant workers/immigrants/elderly/children. I pray that we are able to put ourselves in others’ shoes and see the varied lived realities and lift each other up.
3/ I was 10 when my school closed for a few months and was used as an interrogation/isolation “camp.” My community made sure children were fed & kept us safe within the school compound.
4/ Right now, we are asked to practice social distancing and not discrimination. We are asked to show compassion and not capitalist/corporate greed. We are asked to show our humanity and not our hostility. We are asked to act sensibly and not senselessly.
