Ouch. UK "already weakened by an underlying condition (Brexit)".
Pretty obvious why sterling would weaken given a Prime Minister in complete denial about trying to continue Brexit management at a time of global crisis.
The US is accepting the inevitability of delayed trade talks. Confidence sapping that the UK will not do the same for EU, US etc.

Getting harder and harder to excuse a floundering government even in exceptional times. Exhibit 1.
Exhibit 2 - the queue outside my local supermarket 20 minutes before it opens. Twice the length of yesterday at this time. You've just announced school closures and rumours say impending lockdown of London. Logical to stock. Has government responded?
Exhibit 3 - EU talks from Politico. "Short term blip"?! The greatest global peacetime crisis in living memory is a short term blip. No wonder the pound is tanking. And I gather it is only in recent days that plans to open trade talks with US and Japan have been shelved.

I don't where Londoners are keeping all the food they're buying but major supermarkets half empty in mid afternoon is quite a sight.

There were a fair number of concerned looking shoppers as well. This is not all just going swimmingly for many people.
The stories are floating around, of London lockdowns etc, and it is increasingly clear government has failed to step up and get a grip this week. Sadly.
Trust but verify perhaps? We have to trust our leaders in times like these, and incredibly tough times for governments around the world, but we also have to shout out when they are falling short.

In language they should appreciate - NO, NO, NO.

Current FCO priorities should be: UK citizens abroad, coordination and cooperation with other countries over coronavirus, helping UK companies protect trade and investment in other countries, keeping our supply chains protected.
As for the @BrugesGroup, what part of unprecedented global emergency do they not understand? If you can't put your obsessive puritan ideology to one side at this time then I think you lose any right to any influence. And yes the same applies to rejoiners.
There are hundreds of issues currently more pressing for the UK government than Brexit. Beyond the obvious they include an exacerbated social care crisis, a court system struggling to function, kids potentially missing out on months of education. These must be the priorities.
