They say they're focusing on "public safety risks." But ICE's mission has *always* been "to promote public safety..." The question is, what does public safety mean to ICE? 2/
Turns out "public safety" is the go-to justification for anything ICE wants to do. For example: the MUSLIM BAN is based on perceived threats to "public safety." 3/
Trump's first executive order on immigration was to enhance "public safety." It made any undocumented immigrant a priority for deportation. So when ICE says "public safety," it does not put us at ease. It puts us on alert👀 4/
Why focus on ppl subject to "mandatory detention"? That could be someone with a drug offense, like getting caught with marijuana, or 2 shoplifting cases. Apparently ICE thinks the urgency of detaining these folks is simply too great to act responsibly during a pandemic 🤔5/
But even more than that: people aren't disposable, no matter their criminal history/birthplace. It is not cause for celebration when ICE announces they are going to arrest, detain, and forever exile ANYONE. 6/
We cannot be misled that ICE's mission is about "public safety." ICE is the one threatening public safety, as proven by their commitment to continue raids even now, increasing EVERYONE's likelihood of exposure to coronavirus 7/
ICE's mission remains the same as it was yesterday. Thousands of preventable deaths are still in the balance at detention centers across the country. So we are still watching and demanding that they #StopTheRaids and #freethemALL, and we mean ALL.
