I am going to speak in a probably very unpopular consensus here. Please understand that this is me speaking in what I know and the research I’ve done and I am in no way equipped to make decisions. I initially viewed COVID-19 as not that serious which was obviously misinformed.
What we are doing now with social distancing is buying us time. There is no way this goes on more than 2 months. Every economy in the world would crumble and would lead to an even worse pandemic. Self quarantining is buying us time, nothing more.
Self quarantining will not eliminate the virus. It’s here to stay as of right now. What this is doing is allowing treatment innovations and there is promising news with chloroquine with a z-pack out of France that allows for this to be treatable and reduce severe longevity.
When we are moving beyond social distancing - as I’m guessing in two months maybe sooner - things will become real bad with infections. What is happening now is allowing the federal state and local levels to mobilize and expand hospitals, ventilators, treatment, and more.
It’s not to contain the virus, that is already out the window. 80 percent of us will be fine, 14 percent will need basic forms of medical treatment and the rest will need direct medical intervention. Medical systems that can handle the load see mortality rates of around 1%.
Herd immunity can only happen when a large percent of people have had the virus and reinfection rates are still a huge unknown from a data source perspective. Most indicators show that reinfection is unlikely.
We are simply buying time to get our hospitals and systems in place to handle a large volume of people. Summer time should hopefully also help (again not enough data) with the spread. All of these factors should when we are reintroduced help save lives but not all.
A vaccine is a year out on a minimum for mass distribution. There is no way any economy holds out for a year in social distancing. Be prepared, stay healthy, excercise, wash your hands, and or importantly be prepared.
We will make it through this and we will fight this. In a two year timeframe we will be looking back at how awful this was and hopefully in the future prepare better for future outbreaks like this.
Thanks for listening and sorry for the long rant. Please feel free to disagree with me but be polite. This is just my perspective and perception of how I am viewing things and what my research has led me as far as conclusions. I could be completely off base here.
Note I’m not trying to scare anyone, I’m trying to realize what the next few months will do. With the expansion of paid sick time off and the stimulus packages coming through - I do truly believe that this is what the government is preparing for and their plan of action.
Last thing I will leave with is I’ve followed Dr. Glanvilles work for years and he also has the same opinion of what will happen. Please disregard he news source if you are offended - it was a factual interview with a brilliant mind.

Read this comment from him here:

“But the problem is, eventually people have to go back to work. And the coronavirus appears so infectious that we we don't think we're actually gonna be able to just squish out the pandemic just through social distancing," Glanville said.
Thanks for listening. Be respectful, please don’t be angry, and free to comment here and I value everyone’s opinions even if it differs from mine.
In 1918 3-5% of the world died from influenza. My kid recently got swabbed for the flu and tested positive for influenza-b. I was jumping in joy because it wasn’t COVID-19.

We will be doing the same thing here in our near future albeit a year or two is a long ways away.
