I've been contemplating this for quite a long time, but I think now more than ever its solidified. I'm taking a step back from social media and the security scene in general. Sorry this might be TLDR but important to me. (1/15)
This account will only be used for new releases tools or projects. Or other business-related items or announcements. (2/15)
I won't be monitoring DMs, replies, messages, talking sports, or viewing the feed. After this, it's time to uninstall Twitter from my phone. (3/15)
I try to live my life based on family, friends, and positivity. I see people tearing each other down in the most vicious ways. Even close friends. It's alarming and it's sad. (4/15)
Complete disregard without any thought on the emotional, reputational, or personal impact towards the people they go after. In our industry it's running rampant. (5/15)
I see people trying to amplify their voice and status in security by destroying other people or attacking their personal belief, religion, life style, their looks, family, and more. (6/15)
Instead of doing research, contributing, learning off of one another, it's a side-step method to gain more credibility or followers. Even running a conference for "fun" has spiraled into a chore and dealing with elevated volumes of social and behavioral problems. (7/15)
I see what was once a community driven on knowledge, sharing, or working together to make a positive difference, regardless of who you were or where you were from, completely shift towards going after one another. (8/15)
Not saying that there isn't a ton of positive out there in this industry. It's (for me) being drowned by the negativity against one another and destroying individuals without facts or conversation. I understand that this negative voice is that of the few, but it's growing. (9/15)
I stay silent on pretty much everything and have for a long time. I chose to change things by working with people personally, by impacting local communities, by sharing my knowledge and by treating people with respect and care. (10/15)
My goal with taking a step back is re-prioritizing my effort (and time) to focus on other ways to make a positive difference in others. (11/15)
Things like focusing on local communities, food banks, scholarships, and making a difference not just in INFOSEC, but in other people's lives inside and outside of our industry. (12/15)
I've been speaking at colleges and high schools and also working on developmental programs on getting new people into information security and working on full scholarship programs to drive new careers in security. (13/15)
I understand this might upset people. I understand that not everyone will agree with me. I understand that everyone shares different perspectives on this. This decision is mine and mine alone. (14/15)
I truly want to thank everyone who shares positivity, who focuses on trying to make the world a better place and doesn't tear other people down. I'm only on this Earth for a short time, I will continue to try to make it better than when I leave it. (15/15)
