A manuscript copy of the Gospel of St John, the St Cuthbert Gospel, produced in Northern England in the late 7th century, was buried alongside St Cuthbert & later found in his coffin at Durham Cathedral in 1104. It's the oldest intact book in Europe (British Library blog) (10/12)
The Art Fund says it "has beautifully-worked original red leather binding, and is the only surviving high-status manuscript from this crucial period in British history to retain its original appearance, both inside and out". You can see it here bl.uk/manuscripts/Vi… (11/12)
