Two assumptions to unpack.

First, "trade off"

Three weeks ago, even though he'd been told better, he said it was a Democrat hoax with low risk and blocked testing. Today he's willing to let millions of Americans die to preserve wealth.

That was the trade off.

He made it.
The choice is between doing the right thing now and watching the economy crash, but saving untold lives.

OR

Putting lives at risk, and THEN watching the economy crash as the hospitals fill and people die.

The economy is going to crash. He crashed it. And the money knows this.
What's the "trade-off"?

I'll tell you.

Last month he lied to make his numbers look good. Now they'll lie to make the Dow look good.

When the dying starts, the economy will crash again. But the wealthy will have already sold high and shorted the market.

THAT'S the "trade off."
Trump killed Americans for his ego.

They're saying we're panicking and overreacting, but the truth is people are, everywhere I look, wonderful. Doing what is needed. Looking out for each other. Carrying on.

The money is panicking. Panicked money kills.

That's the "trade-off."
Next, the idea that the economic downturn will cause more death than the virus.

Bullshit.

The only reason that would be true is that they're so unwilling to make the structural changes this moment calls for they'd rather just kill a million people.
Our status quo is a series of gutters and rainbarrels and funnels that sends all money to the wealthy.

The coronavirus broke the funnel.

Solving the coronavirus means reversing the system.

They'd rather we die.

That's what they mean by "the cure is worse than the disease."
What they mean when they say "the cure is worse than the disease" is they refuse to enact mortgage and rent relief and payroll relief and universal healthcare and UBI, even temporarily.

Because that reverses the system of gutters and funnels, and they'd rather kill than do that.
As it stands, the economy is going to collapse. If they did those things, both coronavirus AND the economic crisis would be mitigated.

But it would reverse the system of funnels and gutters and they'd rather kill than do that.

They'll call it "sacrifice."

They mean us.
This is the most perfect revealing apotheosis of capitalistic sociopathy we could ever see.

It's a statement of war, not on the virus, but on us, on behalf of their profits, their filthy fucking money.

Fuck them.

Relief for people or no relief.

Do you think one person who has suggested that we need to reopen to protect the economy works in an ICU?

Do you think they don't have access to private care?

Do you think they'll have to worry about rationing or overcrowded hospitals?

Nope. Sacrifice is for other people.
Never forget that American conservatism, in the full flower of their influence, elected an unstable cretin to limitless power, then treated the greatest crisis of our lives as a cash grab, and felt perfectly safe to advocate for it on TV.

They shouldn't feel safe.
I hesitated to write this because I've had to sacrifice so little.

But everywhere I see people bravely doing their role, and making very real sacrifices, because they value human life more than money.

ALMOST everywhere.

There are those who would rather kill than sacrifice.
There are those who would ask everybody else to sacrifice, so that they could go on sacrificing nothing.

Who will couch it in noble terms, these burdens they put on another, which they refuse to lift a finger to move.

Who helped cause this, for money and ego.

Remember them.
Remember them, safe in their wealth and their power and their total disinterest in whether people live or die that they'll insouciently take to the airwaves and suggest that people—OTHER people, that is—die.

They feel so safe.

They shouldn't.

We should teach them sacrifice.
