What's an #Exchange?
It's just a platform that matches #buyers & #sellers. They say what price, they are willing to buy/sell any particular asset, the exchange matches these 2 orders & the trade happens. The price at which the trade got executed becomes the "Last Traded Price".

The Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of #Pakistan 🇵🇰 and the President of the Republic of #Uzbekistan 🇺🇿 held a virtual summit. During the wide-ranging talks, views were exchanged on bilateral, regional and international issues.
The two leaders reviewed the entire spectrum of bilateral relations -- with particular focus on political, #trade, #security and #defence, educational and cultural domains. Prime Minister Imran Khan underlined the importance of enhancing political and diplomatic linkages,
fast tracking trade and economic cooperation, ensuring early finalization of the Preferential Trade Agreement (#PTA) and Transit Trade Agreement (#TTA), increasing security and #defence cooperation, and taking steps to deepen mutual collaboration in the fields of education,

1/12: Will the UK #integratedreview of security & #foreignpolicy really make a difference? It was billed as a radical reset after #Brexit & does contain important innovations. But there are many areas of continuity. A thread, now we’ve had time to digest..
2/12: #GlobalBritain hyperbole was inevitable. A “science superpower”, a “#softpower superpower”, “an independent country free to tread our own path”. But to be fair, beneath the froth lies serious thought to frame international & domestic priorities.
3/12: The #geopolitical analysis is sober. A tougher, more competitive world where China looms large & old certainties no longer apply. Yet the core prescription is familiar. British foreign policy with global reach, defending liberal democratic values, rule of law & trade.

#Thread about #Kangaroos #Australia #animals #USA #trade #AnimalsMatterAF #Shoes #Nike #fashionstyle :

California banned the import of kangaroo products in 1971. Now politicians from both camps want to extend the ban to the whole of the USA.

nzz.ch/pro-global/usa…
However, the commercially hunted kangaroos are not critically endangered species.
However, it is difficult to monitor the ban. The corresponding police unit is already fully occupied with monitoring the illegal trade in ivory and other exotic animals.
Eating kangaroo meat is certainly not for everyone, and the meat is an absolute niche product.

#Thread about #CommodityMarket #trade #geopolitics #Switzerland :

Despite billions in sales, the names of the major commodity traders such as Vitol, Cargill, Trafigura, Mercuria or Louis Dreyfus are largely unknown to the general public.

nzz.ch/pro-global/per…
After all, the Swiss raw materials group Glencore has emerged from the dark after its IPO in 2011 and several scandals that made headlines.
The numbers are impressive: the three retailers Cargill, Vitol and Glencore made a combined net profit of around 76 billion dollars in the decade before 2011. This is more than Apple's or Coca-Cola's profit during that period

#Thread #Europe #trade #BrusselEffect :
With its huge market and an active commission, the EU can define and enforce standards. One economist calls this the “Brussels Effect”.

nzz.ch/pro-global/per…
Roughly simplified, it is about the global attractiveness and thus the power of the EU internal market with 450 million inhabitants. For example, if the EU sets rules on data protection, then US companies such as Facebook and Google must also adhere to them.
And because these corporations rarely feel like complying with specific data protection rules in every country in the world, they simply apply the strictest standards throughout the company and everywhere.

1/9: The #UK government will soon publish its #IntegratedReview of defence, security, development & #ForeignPolicy. This is an important inflection point: we need a comprehensive, credible vision of the #GlobalBritain agenda after #Brexit. What to expect?.. a thread..
2/9: The #IntegratedReview will set principles to guide individual policies, advocating agile, global British reach in support of democratic values. Johnson’s strap-line is “#UK as a force for good”. But lofty principles will only be credible if hard, practical choices are made.
3/9: Much will be orthodox: supporting effective #multilateralism, rule of law, open #trade. I expect strong commitment to the #US relationship (whatever some say, #Biden is a godsend for Johnson) & lots about the fashionable but nebulous concept of an “#IndoPacific tilt”.

The #EUTradeReview is out. Is it fit for purpose? What is good, what is not and what is missing? A quick thread to sort my thoughts. (1/13)
I like the beginning of it: #geoeconomics is making the #trade world riskier and reinforcing the rules base system is a good idea to create more stability. (That's also what I argue in my book on EU #trade strategy which you find here: voxeu.org/content/europe…) (2/13)
But then there is not much mentioning of geoeconomics in the text. Standard risk management plus technological regulatory cooperation isn't sufficient to counter these threats. There is too little thinking of aligning trade policy with foreign policy (3/13).

Last year, some 13 countries registered trading with North Korea, taking in a total amount of $ 13.09 million, down by one third from $ 35.16 million in 2019,
Voice of America @VOANews reported on Tuesday based on data disclosed by the International Trade Center. #Brazil, #SouthAfrica, #Switzerland, #Bolivia, #Mozambique and #Georgia, among others, are among those countries.
Last year, North Korea's exports to these countries totaled $8.06 million, down marginally from $8.36 million in 2019, while its imports dropped by about 80% from $26.8 million in the previous year to $5.02 million. Imports from #Brazil from North Korea plummeted the most,

The 17+1 flop THREAD
1/6

Yesterday’s #China-#CEEC summit was an embarrassment for #Beijing and, to a large extent, a waste of time for Europeans. Nearly a decade after this format was put in place with a lot of fanfare, it’s worth looking back and reflecting what went wrong.
2/6
There are five flawed assumptions the 16+1 format (17+1 since 2019) was based on.

1. #CEECs’ expectations that #China would be THE source of #FDI capital and a market for their #exports.
The reality:
- 🇨🇳 loans for 🇨🇳 contractors vs limited FDI;
- Growing #trade deficits.
3/6

2. Conspicuous discrepancy between the - supposedly - regional nature of the format and #China's preference for bilateral relations. The #WesternBalkans were “more equal” than others, which led to disenchantment and frustration in #EU member states in #CentralEasternEurope.

As @michaelgove admitted yesterday we are expecting significant disruption in our #trade flows with the EU in coming days. The fact he is willing to say this confirms what most of us feel, that problems are building. This thread is a summary of what I have learnt in the past week
DISCLAIMER I run a trade body and spent the week in my back bedroom on the phone to members, reading the media and on zoom calls. I’m not on the ground and I am not in the operation rooms. So my info is second hand and partial. No one has a complete view. IT IS HIDEOUSLY COMPLEX
The first obvious problem is the number of different actors involved. On the commercial side - within 1 exporter there are multiple depts. There is also the buying company and the logistics company. They all have to sync. 1 load of goods involves multiple commercial actors.

Here we explain how to become a #successful #trader.
We will take Coin toss as example.
You are going to toss the coins 100 times and if you get Heads you will win 10₹ and if you get tails you will loose 5₹.
In this case probability of getting heads and tails is 50:50 . 1/n
We will consider worst case for this event. You Win 40 times (40x10 = 400) and loose 60 times (60x5= 300).
Even in worst case you will be profitable.
This is how #Trading works. Trading is a game of probability. A disciplined #trader can be profitable even in worst case. 2/n
But we can easily be profitable with a little edge (strategy). A simple #strategy will work very well in trading. It is very difficult for a normal Human to be this much disciplined. 3/n

#Africa #AfCFTA #Trade #Coronavirus

After months of delays caused by the global coronavirus pandemic, African countries formally started trading under a new continent-wide free trade zone on Friday.
The goal of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) is to put together 1.3 billion people in an economic bloc of $3.4 trillion, the largest free trade area since the World Trade Organization was created.
It will increase trade between African neighbors and allow the continent to establish its own value chains. It is predicted by the World Bank that by 2035 it will bring tens of millions out of poverty.

THREAD: Boris Johnson has a problem named Joe Biden: Democrats are ☑️ on UK climate leadership and ☑️ on UK defense spending increase, but in no mood to prioritize the relatively small trade deal Johnson wants to agree in Biden’s first 100 days. 1/

My new article puts the much more likely timeframe for the U.S.-U.K. #trade deal as 2022. It’s not punishment for #Brexit per se, but Brexit means the U.K. has complicated Washington’s relations with Europe, and dropped it down the global pecking order /2
I interviewed 16 senior officials and former officials on both sides of the Atlantic, and it’s clear that despite the new EU-UK settlement, Brexit will continue to change the transatlantic dynamic under Biden /3

1/6: Now we have the #Brexit deal we should reboot British #foreignpolicy. It needs both clear long-term priorities and agile tactical footwork. For starters, this thread suggests five early opportunities in 2021, which should also help rebuild key relationships.
2/6: First, consolidate a strong role on #climate leading up to the November #COP26 conference in Glasgow. Show that UK can exercise serious convening power. Work smartly with US, who under Biden & Kerry will want to run the show. Use it to mend fences with #EU & engage #China.
3/6: Second, use #G7 Presidency to link climate agenda to international health policy & sustainable open trade. Boosting collective clinical & economic response to #Covid19. Use leverage of UK financial support for #WHO and expected success of the Oxford vaccine.

#NorthKorea #China #Pyongyang #Trade

Voice of America notes that last month, owing to border closures in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, North Korean exports to China plummeted to just over two thousand dollars.
According to VOA, Chinese customs data reveals that in November, North Korean exports to China accounted for $2,382.
This excludes just over one million dollars from the export of electricity from the jointly built hydroelectric power plant, which VOA does not consider as an export.
Among the products exported to China by North Korea, cosmetics made up the largest share, at over $1800.
