IMPORTANT:
The problem Sasse, Tim Scott and Graham have is that the UI benefits would be larger than what many low-wage workers make because of the *extra $600 per week.*

They worry that would create an incentive for low-wage workers to get laid off and stay laid off.
This has put the bill in limbo.
For example, a minimum wage worker makes $7.25 an hour. That's about $290 a week full time before taxes. (Yes, they pay taxes.)

If they are laid off, they could then get $600 a week PLUS the regular UI benefit.
This also applies to self-employed, gig economy workers etc in a massive expansion of the safety net.
Republicans, btw, successfully blocked a Democratic push for companies receiving aid to pay a minimum $15 an hour.
Grassley folks pushing back on complaints, Sanders warns he'll hold up the bill to put more strings on corporate $$$ unless senators relent, etc. -->

Lindsey Graham yesterday: "Pass the damn bill"

Lindsey Graham today: That bill from Sunday would "destroy what's left of the economy."
(Stuff like this is why new House majorities keep proposing 72 hour rules for leg text and then regularly break those rules whenever they are up against a deadline or a crisis.)
Inbox: Heritage Action warning that emergency UI benefits that pay more than low-wage workers make “threaten America's workforce” and praise Scott/Scott/Sasse/Graham. They argue this will ultimately hurt workers by not having them “attached to their employers”
Mnuchin and Pelosi are putting the hammer down against changing the $600-a-week bonus payment for UI.
