OK. QB numbers #Thread #3 of the day.
[show me what a great Friday you're having with a high-energy, positive LETS GOOOO gif].
The Chargers.
It seems like Tyrod Taylor is getting the first shot right?
I still think it's weird they haven't gone after Jameis, Cam or Dalton.
But there's plenty of time.
No point grasping.
Here's Tyrod in my tool.
Very, very pedestrian.
A low [and dropping] yds/attempt.
And mostly just average across the board. His skillset of deep passer / running QB was good in 2015/16.
But we haven't seen much since then.
I wont be surprised at all if Tyrod can reproduce something like that 15/16 production but even if he does that would make him something like the 18-20th best passer in the NFL.
Meh.
I think we're going to see them try and make a move in the draft.
Either up to get one of the top guys.
Or conceivably down if they believe in Fromm or Love or Eason.
The Rams.
Jared Goff is an interesting case.
I remembered his rookie year was bad - but I'd forgotten quite how bad it was.
Spectacularly awful.
He's an interesting case because he also shows two other things:
1 - QBs are bad as rookies, have a leap in Y2 then stabilise.
2 - the change going from someone like Jeff Fisher to someone like Sean McVay
Over their 3 years together [how quickly has that gone?!] Goff has averaged around 3.5.
Good enough for this rank among QBs:
17 - 7th
18 - 5th
19 - 15th
So although '19 was slightly disappointing I'm really comfortable with him as a locked-in starter going forward
If you're looking for a killer advantage it's that excellent 3rd down conversion % 3 years in a row.
That combined with a high yds/Att is a really solid base.
Next: The Raiders and Derek Carr.
I maintain that Carr is the most boring QB in the NFL.
And I think these stats back that up.
He's not a bad player at all. And I think he's a really good fit for that conservative, West Coast offense Gruden likes.
But there's just nothing to get excited about.
Relatively low yds/Att.
Low TD rate.
So-so conversion rates.
It's just boring.
Now somebody will likely reply with a gif or a short clip of him throwing a 35 yard bomb.
Of course he can do that - it's just that he does it very rarely compared to his peers.
Is Carr really that different to the other archetypes of boring Alex Smith and Ryan Tannehill?
I don't think he is.
I'm not going to go into detail on Mariota but I have him in the same bucket.
Conservative. Safe. Reliable.
But BORING.
But as I said it appears Coach Gruden likes that - so he's probably safe for another couple of years at least.
Next - The Dolphins.
Obviously they're going to draft a QB too and I can't comment on how he might do.
Its weird how fixated on Tua Dolphins fans are though.
I don't know a singe Fins fan who wants Burrow to drop to them.
Everyone loves Fitzmagic.
He's so much fun...
He's got a beard...
One time he wore a funny outfit...
He went to Harvard...
He continually throws the ball away and gets chased out of his starting job...
Here's him season by season for me.
I find this massively underwhelming to be honest.
He can clearly string a handful of good games together every so often.
But he's not that good.
Let's hope the rookie is ready to play early.
As far as YOLO QBs go though here's Fitzmagic compared to a couple of others:
Jameis Winston and Eli Manning.
Eli is a Hall of Famer [apparently] and no-one wants Jameis.
But I'd happily take Winston over the others.
Right. I've got to go.
More QBs later on...
