I don't know if you would call it an analogue or a metaphor, but there's something eerie in the parallels.

In feudal times, the rich fled to their summer estates while the squalid masses either died in the streets or were forced to continue to work and die in the fields.
The only thing they cared about was whether one piece of gold was missing from their pots and how much more land they could acquire to add to their holdings after the deaths subsided. Back then the earth was still flat and science and medicine were considered witchcraft.
Fortunately, once the concept of democracy began to take hold, education and information weren't limited to or restricted by the rich or the church, and the people recognized science and social welfare were good for all, the western world evolved and became "enlightened."
Today the rich are sheltered in ivory towers worried to death about the stock market declining while they whine and complain that Americans need to hurry back to work even if they are sick and dying.
Meanwhile, the people with the most are the last to believe in science, medicine and medical technology, governance, leadership, hygiene and social responsibility. And the wealthiest are quick to demand personal or financial sacrifice of others but none of themselves...
...or their children.

While the means exist today to mitigate disaster, they will not initiate any action if it does not benefit them directly or there is no direct addition to their personal bottom lines.
The only thing they care about is whether their stock shares will recover, how big the bailout will be, and whether they'll be able to give themselves raises and bonuses.
In the past the world was ruled by monarchs, nobility and aristocracies. Today tyrants, oligarchs and kleptocrats are pushing to the fore. Governance, social order and financial breakdown ajoined with a world wide pestilence should be wake-up call with air raid klaxons worldwide.
Are these comparisons harsh? Yes. It's grim and it's dark.
It should be. And it's not just the US. It's being replicated around the world. The US just happens to be leading the way. This is the downward trajectory and devolution of western civilization.
The facts and reality are incontrovertible.
I can't remember who said it now, but at the beginning of the Trump Presidency***, someone stated that it was the beginning of a new world order. I have to wonder if even their expectations have been exceeded?
So it's official, MAGA marks the beginning of the New Dark Age.
