Remember when Australia was on fire and a billion animals died? That watershed moment in our collective understanding of climate change made it clear that nothing would ever be the same. That was 4 months ago.
Remember the catastrophic earthquakes in Turkey and Puerto Rico, the floods in Jakarta, the avalanches in Indonesia, and the tornadoes in the American South? That was the wake-up call we needed. That was 3 months ago.
Remember when Trump was acquitted in that abortive sham of an impeachment trial and we knew nothing in our naive conception of democracy or justice would ever be the same? We had to take action. That was 2 months ago.
Remember when we were all trapped in our homes with our thoughts and our anger while our dysfunctional healthcare system buckled under the weight of a global pandemic? Something had to give. That was today.
We are infinitely adaptable with memories like sieves.

We bounce back to the same tired, destructive patterns until the next unspeakable horror when we make pronouncements and promises and go right back to the same, broken system.

Good luck to us.
