Our daily update is published. We’ve now tracked a total of 1.6+ million tests, up more than 200k from yesterday. The testing plateau is over.

Note that we can only track tests that a state reports. And not all states report all tests.

The biggest thing in this update is that California added 75k+ negative test results and only 1300 new positives. This must be a reporting restatement.

It's a HUGE change in the testing metrics for the state, and it is very good news, if the numbers can be believed.
Because of this large California restatement, we would not expect to see 200k tests a day tomorrow.

New daily deaths held steady at 1,182, about as many as yesterday. New York continues to dominate the movement of these numbers, and New York's numbers have flattened.

Some unexpected numbers came from Indiana today. Despite only having ~5000 confirmed cases, the state said today it has 924 COVID patients in the ICU and 500 on ventilators. That's not too far from California's ICU count and closing in on Pennsylvania and Louisiana's vent usage.

The US has now completed tests on over 1 million people: 1,048,971 to be exact.

It's a milestone.

But/and our daily number of completed tests does not appear to be rising anymore.

One reason is supply constraints, which are hard to pin down, but definitely a real factor. Also, many labs are taking up to a week to return tests, so our quantitative view here is likely considerably lagging the underlying reality.
There are also clear *demand* constraints as testing criteria remain quite strict. We are still getting reports from all over of people who have been able unable to get tested despite having a good reason to do so.

Good morning! The IHME model being relied upon by WH was updated last night and I wanted to spotlight some of the changes that were made. It's important to remember that models are not oracles, and it's necessary to update them as new data comes in. So here is what changed:
Overall US:
-# of deaths projected decreased from 93,531 to 81,766
-Projected total bed shortage went from 87,674 to 36,654
-Peak dates(April 15 for resource needed peak, 16th for peak daily death toll) unchanged
-Under 200 deaths a day: Moved from June 3 to May 18
Individual States: NY
-Peak hospital use is now projected 4/8 instead of 4/9, peak daily deaths 4/9 instead of 4/10
-Total deaths now projected at 15.6k instead of 16.3k
- Under 20 deaths per day projected to be on 4/30 instead of 5/2

Now then, Rachael Swindon's comments. This thread isn't easy to write and I'm sure will incur plenty of anger. For the record: I do not consider Rachael an antisemite or a racist. She's a perfectly normal person who's done a huge amount for the left.
This thread isn't about judging her as a person. It's about judging her actions - which were stupid beyond belief. And, unwittingly I'm quite sure, her comments were VERY antisemitic. Here they are below.
She has since deleted the tweet; I don't know if she's apologised for it. She was, of course, tweeting in response to the Board of Deputies' 10 pledges: some of which I queried myself in this thread here:
