I know you are a nice person, @arsetechnica who means well, so this thread is for you.

I oppose the death penalty but I'm not an expert so I listen to and donate to experts like you.

I'm an expert on health & #climate impacts from #oilandgas with over 16 yrs experience.

I worked for #oilandgas.
I was a directly impacted landowner and a mineral owner, which is how I became a health and environmental advocate.
I've been OGI certified for over 6 yrs and have more experience behind an OGI camera than most regulators and industry.

First I thought: Oh, this #fracking is a mess and someone needs to make them do it right. I co-authored Drill Right Texas. I had good intentions, but insufficient information.

#oilandgas promised in 2005 to stop the emissions that turned my air brown.

They didn't stop their emissions, and they can't. But I didn't know that then so I kept working to get incremental measures passed that would help. Like you, I thought "ez pz."

Meanwhile, #methane skyrocketed and #ClimateCrisis accelerated.

I'm still learning about the #oilandgas industry.
They have unlimited $$ for propaganda flimflam.
They use psyops on Americans they call insurgents.
Intentional venting of #methane is REQUIRED throughout the entire, vast system of extraction, production, and transportation.

NOT an ez pz problem to solve.

They can only reduce, not eliminate #methane at existing wells.

Continuing to expand #oilandgas extraction and production insures that methane levels will continue to rise and #ClimateCrisis will accelerate. The death penalty for all.

With widespread mandated deployment of the best technologies and strict oversight, they can reduce--not eliminate--health and #ClimateCrisis impacts.

That must happen at existing facilities ASAP.

BUT...

There is no system in place anywhere in the US for strict oversight of #oilandgas. It has always been a voluntary regulatory system and that has #Failed.

To create such a system will take time that we don't have and money that we also don't have.

Stopping flaring without first solving the intentional and necessary venting/pressure release problem will only make the venting worse. Lit flares are much less harmful to the #climate than venting raw #methane.

Building more pipelines is not the answer and is pure insanity.

Pipelines cause more impacts that I can say here. And they bake in decades more #oilandgas extraction.

We don't need any more new wells or infrastructure.

We CAN meet 95% of the world's #energy needs with #wind #water #solar per @mzjacobson -- follow him.

We must STOP #fracking now. STOP permitting all #oilandgas and infrastructure. Rapidly transition to 100% #RenewableEnergy.

I am not cynical. I am fierce. I am full of hope.
