Twitter Emergency Good & Bad News (Long Thread)

OK, I have Good News & Bad News

Bad News: The Alberta Government has Fucked up again and has further tried to ruin the life of a disabled individual

Good News: There is a way to fix the wrong that has been done to this person
I have to admit that late this evening I sat down and cried at all the atrocities that the Alberta Government has done to Albertans all over the province.

I also have to admit that every story that I hear, my heart breaks just a little bit more for the people that have no voice
Here is a story of a Wheelchair fixer and a Double Amputee.

Wheelchair Fixer:

My name is D** **** I started working as a wheelchair tech over 12 years ago after I suffered a spinal stroke and the stroke left me in a wheelchair.
Over time, I have met many people with disabilities and I to this day, still work from home to help them. From time to time I am given equipment from people that have passed away or from people or families that simply do not need the devices anymore.
Now we all know that there are some serious GAPS in the AADL (Aides To Daily Living) system that provides Albertan's with much needed medical mobility devices. It is with these devices that are given to me, I help fill in these gaps.
I was shown a recent post by a woman in Leduc that was in desperate need of a motorized wheelchair. She was in great need of help and was trying to get it from our government but I am sure you know what the outcome to that is....😒
Normally I could help this person but due to the recent Covid_19 Pandemic that has taken over the world, I need some extra help. I have a Motorized Chair ready to go. We just need to purchase a new set of batteries, a charger and then transport the chair to the nice lady in Leduc
Double Amputee:

My name is M**** & I'm a 45 year old disabled Albertan. After years of struggling with mobility issues, a neuro-inflammatory disorder and several serious and frequent infections, I ended up having both legs amputated in June 2019.
It was quickly determined that because of recurring inflammation and several unhealing wounds, I would not be able to be a candidate for prosthetics of any kind.

Because I have minimal function in my left hand, I am unable to propel a manual chair up inclines or safely downhill.
Although early on it was determined that I would need a powered wheelchair, the process of obtaining one through AADL has been grueling to say the least. It took 8 MONTHS before I was even able to have a fitting and trial done, and at this point, we finally have AADL approval.
We are now awaiting their technical specialist to sign off on the chair before they can review the database for a recyclable chair and proceed with either refurbishing one or ordering a new one.
It will come but til then I cant go places independently as I cant get up/down ramps without help I cant utilize public transit & I have to rely on someone to take me where I need to go If it weren't for a unemployed friend I'd have no way to get to appointments or get groceries
I am trapped in my apartment unable to go anywhere until I have a powered chair that I can safely use on buses, trains and sidewalks. Someone has one that they are donating to me until or if the government ever finally comes through with a chair for me...there is just one problem
I need donations so I and the people helping me can purchase a set of batteries for me, (Two sets so I can have one on the chair and the other charging), A specialized battery charger, and also to pay for the transportation and shipping of the chair from Calgary to Leduc.
Any support, any donation that could be provided to me and for me would have me forever in debt to my fellow Albertan's. It would not only be appreciated but it literally would be life changing in so many ways.
We've partnered with @HarvestHillsYYC & their team of volunteers to fundraise for these individuals & we'll also transport the Wheelchair from Calgary to Leduc!!

Thank you to everyone for listening to the stories from these two individuals and if you can help, see tweet below!
