For each #Province and #Territory in #Canada, here is the help that was offered to those living with #disabilities. This will include the #Federal help offered as well as any hoops #PWDs may have needed to jump through to get it and whether CERB was clawed back or not.
This is based on my own research, and if anyone sees anything I missed or may have gotten wrong please let me know.
Let's start with #Yukon
According to several articles, eligible families on #disability supports we're to get up to $400 to help with costs until August. Unknown what eligibility was.
#CERB was exempt from clawbacks.
#NWT are next. There was a one time payment automatically given to #PWDs and those on assistance of 500$ for individuals and 190$ for families. #CERB was exempt from clawbacks as were any other supports available.
#Nunavut I was unable to find information regarding any disability assistance but #CERB was clawed back dollar for dollar.
Now we move on to #BC. From the outset of the pandemic each #PWD was topped up on their provincial benefit by $300/month. This top up still continues. It was automatic. #CERB was exempt from clawbacks, however CERB recipients were not eligible for the 300$ top up,which is fair.
Now, in #Alberta there were no provincial supports or top-ups that I could find. #CERB was clawed back. #AISH recepients who received CERB were only allowed to keep $725 out of the $2000 benefit.
Moving on to #Saskatchewan. #SAID recipients received a one time $50 top-up. #CERB was clawed back 100%. N
Now, in #Manitoba, there was a one time payment of $200 for individuals on #EIA. #CERB was clawed back. Recipients could keep only 740$ of $2000
In #Ontario, #ODSP recipients received a $100 top up from March to July. It was not automatically given. More than half of #PWDs did not even know it existed, had to request it from workers, workers unavailable and many not even approved. #CERB was clawed back to $1,100 of $2000
In #Québec, there were no provincial aids for individuals with disabilities. #CERB was clawed back, despite digging I was unable to find exactly to what extent.
#NewBrunswick no provincial supports found for those on #disability in New Brunswick. They clawback all social assistance money dollar-for-dollar, depending on how much money the person received from #CERB.
In #PEI I have found no provincial funding to assis #PWDs. #CERB is clawed back dollar for dollar.
Next on the list we have #NovaScotia, where there have been no supports for #PWDs. There was mention of 100 phones with plans to be given to vulnerable residents, no other information found. #CERB replaces #IA for those eligible (in essence it was clawed back dollar for dollar)
Now last but not least is #Newfoundland #Labrador. No provincial assistance that I could find. #CERB was clawed back 100%
After spending hours going down the rabbit hole of programs across Canada this was what I'd found. Some provinces made the information easy to find while others required quite a bit more digging.
Now on a #Federal level, for #Disabled Canadians there was a one time #GST top up of up to 400$ for individuals. Currently #PWDs who were eligible for the #DTC #CPP #QPP are awaiting their one time payment of $600. Applications are open for the DTC until Dec. 31st.
Currently this #Federal payment covers only approximately 1.6 million of 6.2 million Canadians with disabilities. The majority of those on provincial programs cannot afford the fees incurred to have the form filled out. (for some it's the equivalent of their monthly food budget)
Even if half of Canadians with disabilities are accepted for the #DTC, that will still leave more than 3 million people without help! Now the #Government has said that they were working on a guaranteed income for #Canadians with #disabilities, so now we wait and see!
