We also keep hearing about various #Hacking, #Phishing attempts and in times like these it is important to understand the basics of social media privacy settings to secure yourself from such attempts. #PrivacyAware
The first step is to control who sees your posts. All social media apps have privacy settings that you can tweak with to control who sees, comments, likes or shares the posts.
For example, #Instagram has a feature in which you can make your account private from a public account. You can also restrict comments and replies to tweets under Privacy settings. #PrivateLives#INSTABLOCK#privacy
The second step is to enable two factor authentication for all of your devices. 2FA is a way that you can prevent unauthorized login into your devices. You can either use an authenticator app or enable #2FA in settings of your social media app. #SocialMedia#privacyplease
You can alternatively or in addition use login verification where additional questions will be asked to confirm your identity. #login#dataprotection#DataPrivacyDay
The 3rd step is to learn how to #Block & #Report posts and users. In case a post or a user makes you uncomfortable, use the block and report buttons to report the user/post. These can be accessed through the post. #SocialMedia#cybersafety#trolls#security
#MindYourPermissions
Check the permissions that you are granting the apps. A flashlight doesn’t need permission for your gallery. You can also access the settings in your phone to check permissions which you have already granted & retract the unnecessary ones. #PrivacyAware
#Passwords
Use different passwords for different accounts: Using different passwords for different accounts safeguards your sensitive data in data breaches. #passphrase#privacymatters#security
We recommend using @Bitwarden password manager. It also has a password generator. You can add it as an extension on your search engine and also download its mobile app. #passwords#Hacking#PrivacyAware
In a world operated by data exploitation, it is a necessity to make informed decisions concerning our personal data. @SFLCin assists in framing laws and demystifying legal policies to promote a greater understanding of the data privacy rights of citizens.
The report by @rajaharia suggests that #WhatsApp groups that use links to allow users to enter, may once again be vulnerable to being found online, allowing anyone to join the group. The issue appears to have been resolved as of now.
The issue is not just with group invite links, but also with individual user account profiles. #URLs of people’s profiles can now be searched on #Google. #privacy#privacymatters
As #DigitalIndia is becoming a reality, it is important to understand that maximum efforts have to be made to make internet free, accessible, and inclusive to all. #LetTheNetWork
Students have lost many hours of their education, people have lost their livelihoods, the media has been severely crippled, the economy has suffered immensely & businesses have collapsed in the absence of a stable internet connection. #LetTheNetWork#KeepItOn
