I also find this interesting because I often see people who study #conservation & #WildlifeTrade argue that CITES and US Endangered Species Act listings should all mirror the IUCN Red List assessments. But I doubt the same people would agree when it means removing protections...

This is why using precise language when we talk about #conservation issues is *so* important. If you don't see context, ask questions! Otherwise, #science misinformation is likely to sneak into the development of policy recommendations to protect #wildlife. #SciComm
On a related note, this lack of precision often emerges in how people talk about @CITES-listed species of #plants and #animals. I've heard many people describe these as #endangered species, when the majority are not. This matters because it affects peoples' attitudes & decisions.
