Tomorrow I have another dentist appointment. It's very likely I will need to go look at #plants afterwards. Do Phil and Adan need a potential new leafy friend?
I’ve never been much of a succulent person.... but gosh look how pretty these aloe #plants are!
This one is definitely speaking to me...
Can anyone tell me if this #plant is also a #Monstera adansonii? I’ve rarely seen them with such narrow flat leaves. And most of the leaves have no holes, but every now and then, one has a lot (like the leaf on the right side) #ScienceTwitter
Definite #Monstera adansonii on the left for comparison #plant

Five years ago today, USFWS banned 201 species of #salamanders from entering the US to prevent a #chytrid extinction crisis (see here: fws.gov/injuriouswildl…) Unfortunately #frogs can also carry this pathogen & their door remains wide open: nationalgeographic.com/animals/2020/0… #WildlifeTrade
As a freelance #WildlifeTrade scientist, my work integrates #science & policy to help reduce potential harm trade may cause. The example above shows the dangers that occur when government laws & policies don't keep up with scientific progress (2/N) @NatGeo #nature #OneHealth Image
After @USFWS enacted the 2016 #WildlifeTrade restriction to help keep this deadly fungus out of the US, it was found that frogs can also carry this "#salamander" pathogen. Thus #frogs might be carrying 2 species of #chytrid into the US (see brill.com/view/journals/…) #SciComm (3/N) Image

According to this, #DonaldTrump is no longer President? Screenshot from the State Department website: state.gov/biographies/do… Is President Donald Trump gone for good, or was the government website hacked? #impeachment Image
If the government eventually says that this isn't legitimate, can we please call no take backsies on this one?
The State Department site is down now. I tried to fix the error message for you! #TrumpInsurrection #impeachment Image

I'm sorry but #BlackLivesMatter protests should never be treated like the #CapitolRiot. Protesting in response to murders committed by police is not the same as committing a violent #CapitolBuilding attack b/c you didn't like the winner of an election #impeachment #25thAmendment
And if it isn't already obvious..... #BlackLivesMatter protestors have already been treated *much* more severely than the #TrumpSupporters who murdered two police officers which were defending the lives of our senators and Vice President inside the #CapitolBuilding
I generally have a high degree of tolerance for people whose views I do not share, but I have zero tolerance for hate.

IMPORTANT REMINDER! If you ever see a sick or dead #salamander please snap a photo & add it to my disease surveillance page on @inaturalist at inaturalist.org/projects/savin… A novel #chytrid fungus is attacking #salamanders & you can help! #CitizenScience #CommunityScience #salamanders
Just realized I hashtagged salamanders 50 times in the post above. Sorry! Chytrid fungus gets me all fired up!
And just to be clear, the photos you upload do NOT necessarily mean that the animals had #chytrid fungus. Lots of things cause amphibians to die. But we have *so* little info about what a "normal" amount of dead #salamanders looks like. Your records have sparked field responses!

Since the #WildlifeTrade and #COVIDー19 are back in the news, might be a good time to share my @NatGeo story again: nationalgeographic.com/animals/2020/0… #Science #OneHealth @InsideNatGeo
This is what I want people to understand about the #WildlifeTrade and spread of diseases, from my personal experiences. We need to start fixing this *now*, before the next #wildlife or human pandemic: nationalgeographic.com/animals/2020/0… via @NatGeo #ScienceTwitter #SciComm #OneHealth Image
The reason I'm so passionate about this #WildlifeTrade issue is b/c I truly believe solutions already exist but the tools are spread across different agencies. What can be done? I'd love to help build a collaboration between @CDCgov, @USFWS, & @USDA as a place to start #OneHealth

With #Halloween approaching, what haunts you? I often worry about how quickly #animals are going extinct, and especially #frogs. Here's some of the ways your support can help me prevent then from becoming #environmental ghosts: patreon.com/MyFrogCroaked #FridayFeeling #FrogFriday
Did you know? Many baby #frogs (tadpoles) act as “river lawn mowers” by grazing on algae and plant material that falls into rivers. Their presence helps protect clean water which people and #wildlife both depend on. #FrogFriday
Also, #frogs may help control the spread of human #diseases spread by #insects, like #malaria, dengue & Zika. The tadpoles of some frog species are carnivorous & kill mosquito eggs & larvae. Keeping frogs healthy can help keep people healthy too patreon.com/MyFrogCroaked #OneHealth
