The killing continues: #Ukraine still under real pressure in the eastern #Donbas region, but signs that the US supplied weapons in particular are beginning to cause real problems for #Russia.
All the news, all day, right here⬇️
#Mykolaiv came under heavy attack in the early hours this morning. We are still awaiting full details.
At least 8 missiles were launched by #Russia's army. Some landed in #Nikolaev according to the mayor
Although it's Day 129 of this thread and the full invasion, please remember this war started over 8 years ago.
In two weeks it will be the 8th anniversary of the MH17 massacre when 300 were murdered by #Russia. Had we acted decisively then, we wouldn't need to spend billions now.
Not much difference in the estimation of #Russia's war losses today.
Already since then another helicopter has been downed, while the total of soldiers to have died will reach 36,000 in tomorrow's update.
The morning report from UK Intelligence again seems to make excuses for #Russia's repeated hitting of civilian targets.
I ask Whitehall to consider evidence: #Grozny#Aleppo#Kyiv#Mariupol#Chernihiv - it's not coincidence.
It's NOT collateral damage, Putin targets civilians
I don't know whether to smile or cry. The sight of children with guns is horrifying for me. But they emulate their elders.
A kids' checkpoint in #Mykolaiv region - only #Ukraine passports allowed through, though a few sweets help! (Note the young patriots speak Russian)
Yesterday #Russia again said they were in control of parts of #Lysychansk.
However, the Gov of #Luhansk says #Ukraine's army pushed back attacks at the oil refinery and the gelatin plant south of the town.
My assessment: 🇷🇺 largely controls the refinery but nowhere else.
Most eyes in #Ukraine on the east, in #Donbas.
But, in the north-east fierce battles continue.
In #Kharkiv region, at least 18 separate towns/villages were shelled including the city itself, while in #Sumy oblast they report almost 300 rockets were fired by #Russia in 24 hours
On the southern front, #Ukraine's army reports a successful evening.
In #Kherson and #Mykolaiv regions it's claimed artillery and aircraft destroyed "27 Russian rocket launchers, a Tor anti-aircraft missile system, a Howitzer and 3 units of armoured/automotive equipment."
Plenty of explosions on the frontline already today in #Donetsk region.
A little outrage over claims #Ukraine shelled the #Kursk region over the border inside #Russia.
The statement from the local authority says no-one was injured and they published this video. Literally looks like someone dug a hole, oh, and there was a broken window somewhere!
#Germany has rightly been criticised for its slow and underwhelming support of #Ukraine's defence, but promising signs..
🇺🇦Army has released this video of 🇩🇪Panzerhaubitze 2000 howitzers hitting Russian positions in the #Donbas.
Reports that 4 Russians are dead, another 10 injured in occupied #Tokmak, in #Zaporizhzhia oblast.
But #Ukraine cannot take credit. It's reported this is "Orcs arguing among themselves" while trying to sort out who should bag loot stolen by #Russia's army t.me/zoda_gov_ua/99…
It's the last remaining town of note in #Luhansk region. If this is true, it's a huge blow to #Ukraine just days after "retreating to more secure positions"
I saw reports earlier today of #Ukraine happening to find masses of computer files which incriminate #Russia.
As there has been no proof of this I did not report it as if it was the other way around, I would immediately say "propaganda". However Sky and others are now reporting
The illegitimate president of #Belarus makes an outlandish claim that "a few days ago, the Armed Forces of Ukraine tried to strike at military facilities in Belarus."
Aleksander Lukashenko says all the missiles were intercepted.
Hands up if you believe him.... thought not!🤥
The invaders have hoisted the flag of the Soviet Union in #Lysychansk this evening
#Russia says this is Central park in the town in west #Luhansk.
The Mayor of #Chernihiv has again been refused permission to leave #Ukraine
Vladyslav Atroshenko was stopped at Polish border. He was going to Switzerland "for a Conference on the Restoration of Ukraine + Chernihiv Oblast in particular"
He is not a member of Zelenskyy's party😉
#Russia says it is "extremely likely" to control all of #Luhansk before the end of the day.
#Lysychansk was the last town remaining, but there are a few other settlements which #Ukraine did control. It looks like a retreat to avoid encirclement, but #Kyiv is still silent.
Four key ministries of the "Donetsk Republic" are now run by Russians, not natives of #Donetsk or even #Ukraine.
Yet still many still don't see the ridiculous fairytale of the "DPR" being a genuine "separatist" movement.
The remains of the #Lysychansk local government building this evening.
Again the Soviet Union "victory flag" is raised over the building in #Luhansk region.
1/ Thread on #Uzbekistan
Very difficult to obtain information following the State of Emergency in #Karakalpakstan.
A reminder that the President has done a U-turn and won't now try to deprive the region of its autonomy.
GRAPHIC VIDEO
Last night many died, over 1,000 injured
2/ #Karakalpakstan capital #Nukus saw many deaths after riot police tried to break up a huge rally in the centre
In tactics identical to those seen in #Belarus + #Russia when confronted with domestic protests, armed police were this morning brutal arresting suspects
(unverified)
3/ #Nukus appears to be calm this evening, at least I've not seen reports of gatherings, which would be illegal under the new emergency measures
However, the #Uzbekistan riot police snatch squads continued their terror tactics on the streets throughout the day (unverified video)
1/2 Terrible scenes in #Uzbekistan.
Here #Russia is not so keen on backing separatists.
Last night another huge demo in #Karakalpakstan which has been autonomous but among growing independence sentiment, that was abolished with the state being brought back under central control
2/4
Warning *GRAPHIC VIDEO*
Predictably for former #Soviet states still tied to #Russia, things quickly turned violent - horrendously so.
As protests spiraled in #Uzbekistan, President Mirziyoev did a U-turn scrapping plans to limit autonomy and possible secession for #Karakalpakstan, but then imposed a month-long state of emergency.
The violence continued...
2/ #Putin loves symbolism and to leave calling cards.
It's no coincidence that he ordered the murderous strikes on an apartment block and two leisure complexes in #Odesa region with exactly the same delivery as #Kremenchuk - three X-22 missiles fired from Tu-22 strategic bombers.
