Today is #COP27 Gender Day! We aim to close the gender gap in #government, finance, education & employment. We are proud to implement an important initiative: African Women's CAP.
2/13: Today we launch of the African Women’s Climate Adaptive Priorities (CAP). This initiative comprehensively addresses gender-sensitive climate challenges & opportunities to empower the stewards of our communities & planet.
3/13:HE Dr. Yasmine Fouad opens the event with powerful remarks. “#Women are the main engine for tackling the front lines of #climatechange,” explaining that they are the implementers of green solutions & advocates for community wide sustainability.”
4/13: Dr. Fouad calls for the full participation of #women in the blue & #greeneconomy & for their representation in decision-making, policy-planning, & scientific research at the launch of the African Women’s CAP initiative.
5/13: Dr. Fouad shares remarks from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on the role of #women in #climateaction. “We depend on you now to continue this noble role. Women will be the icon of change to achieve a historic paradigm shift.”
6/13: Dr. Maya Morsi, President of the National Council for Women says, “climate change effects are not gender neutral. #Women suffer far worse in the areas of agriculture, nutrition, health, water, energy, & migration.”
7/13: Dr. Maya Morsi continues, “if women are affected more, they should be taking the lead. Women are not just helpless victims, they are powerful agents of change and their leadership is critical.”
8/13: Sima Bahous, Executive Director of UN Women says, "our inability to afford equal rights is not just a loss for women. It is a missed opportunity for communities and the world at the time when we need their contributions the most."
9/12: UN Climate Change High-level Champion Dr Mahmoud Mohieldin speaks at the launch of The African Women’s CAP. “We need justice through implementation, through projectization, and through investment.”
10/13: Dr. Mohieldin adds, “We need practical answers in this COP for implementation. In a world that has more improved access to finance, only 33% of women have a formal bank account.”
11/13: Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin closes by commending H.E. Dr. Yasmine Fouad on her success in raising awareness for climate change and with a message to the world: “Give women the chance to solve the problems for the generations of the future.”
12/13: HE Dr. Yasmine Fouad closes out the ceremony with a stark message on the gender gap in Africa. “70% of the continent's food is produced by women, but they represent only 15% of the land holders. Women safeguard water, food, and shelter.”
12/12: In her final remarks, Dr. Fouad notes progress. “We are 54 countries in Africa and we now have around 20 female ministers working towards the health of the environment,” expressing optimism that this figure grows.
2/4: The session discussed ways to protect the coasts of #Egypt & other developing countries, as well as how to protect lowlands from floods & erosion through #naturebasedsolutions.
3/4: “We need to emphasize the important of the project to enhance #adaptation, protect the #NileDelta & acknowledge it as a model for implementation projects to achieve sustainable development & as a product of extended cooperation with the Green Climate Fund,” said Dr. Fouad.
2/6: Loss of #biodiversity is one of the most devastating impacts of #climatechange as it compounds the damages to our ecosystems, agriculture, and livelihoods.
3/6: As the planet’s atmospheric temperature continues to rise, extreme weather events become more frequent, and ecosystems, to face further destruction, we drive loss of species, sometimes with irreversible consequences.
🪡 1/4: #COP27 live at the #BlueZone | Facilitating Transformational Climate Adaptation for the Least Developed Countries Fund (LDCF) and the Special Climate Change Fund (SCCF)
2/4: Securing climate finance for low-income countries is a critical challenge to enabling their adaptation & resilience measures. Low income countries are particularly vulnerable to climate change impacts, & lack the financial resources required to build capacity on adaptation.
3/4: The Global Environment Facility, part of the operating entity of the Financial Mechanism for UNFCCC, held a pledging event to secure climate finance for the Least Developed Countries Fund and the Special CLimate Change Fund.
🪡 1/4 : #COP27 live from the #GreenZone | How the Textile & Apparel Industry Needs to Coordinate and Align With Brands and Retailers in Order to Lower Its Impact on the Environment Along the Supply Chain
2/4: “An inclusive #COP is one that #retailers & #designers are a part of. It is one that can discuss how our shopping habits also interact with the #environment.”

3/4: “It’s not cotton that’s harmful it’s the #manufacturing process. Cotton is the perfect low carbon fiber but we’re just not stressing the importance of #regenerative#farming & #agriculture.”
2/7: The #Energy Security and #ClimateChange side event gave energy ministers and secretaries along with energy security experts the opportunity to speak about the current energy crisis and the #geopolitical challenges that currently exacerbate the issue.
3/7: Speaking on #Egypt’s #energy transition Dr. Yasmine Fouad said, “There is no one size fits all model. We need plans to be aligned with our NDCs & we need to be flexible so that we are able to adapt our development strategies down the line as needed.”
