#capitalism is essentially *backwards* looking. yes, capitalists attempt to pretend that they're the masters of #innovation and advancement of #technology, the builders of the #future, and all that.

it's lies—mere #marketing. capitalists do not like progress or change.

corporate #management and #executive persons want one thing above all others: guaranteed #money. they want *safe bets*. they don't want #competition or #risk; they want a steady source of "passive income" that always goes up and up.

(this causes #inflation, by the way.)

(yes, I know that #capitalism and the #business community, not to mention all #politics and #journalism these days, blame #inflation on the profligate #consumer—but in reality, inflation occurs because capitalists always want *more #money*; it has to come from somewhere.)

#capitalism works overtime to keep obsolete #business models alive. we're still burning carbon fuels, still drilling for oil and still burning coal, because capitalists and @Sen_JoeManchin feel entitled to keep the carbon-fuel industry going at full steam, no matter what.

and as the mention of the notoriously corrupt @Sen_JoeManchin ought to make obvious, the chief method by which capitalists keep obsolete industries afloat is via political corruption.

@elonmusk is an essentially backwards-looking man. he's surrounded by crawlers and dupes such as @mtaibbi and @Teslaconomics and @BillyM2k who all believe, with the eager stupidity of overgrown children, in the futuristic #marketing lies churned out by @Tesla and @SpaceX.

@elonmusk pretends to be the #future. undoubtedly he believes in the pretence to some degree—at the very least, he believes in *his own* future, a future of wallowing in wealth and eternal fame.

but the daydreams he sells to @Teslaconomics &c. are *old-fashioned* dreams.

the @elonmusk / @SpaceX #space colonization dream is an old-fashioned daydream—the same daydream that the genocidal European marauders had of sailing away to some other land where they could steal themselves a quick fortune and set miniature kingdoms up for themselves.

and the @elonmusk / @Tesla / @Teslaconomics daydream is stale and creaky, as well.

$TSLA wants to *preserve* "car culture". Musk wants people to go on believing in the false promise of the personal motorcar.

what's the nature of that false promise? why is it seductive?

it's quite simple really. @Teslaconomics has been demonstrating it for us, hilariously: the gearhead's daydream is that their car is like a personal *spaceship*. it's their real home, a space they intend to spend their entire lives in...isolated, alone, ringed by enemies.

to live like @elonmusk, or like one of his feeble imitators of the @BillyM2k / @Teslaconomics sort, is to have few friends and billions of enemies—because that's what it's like to live a life devoted to avarice and cheating people out of money. you make enemies that way.

@elonmusk is better equipped to deal with having billions of enemies than @Teslaconomics; he's got a lot more #money (or at least he's able to *borrow* more when needed) so Musk can afford to buy himself private hiding-places and armies of @Pinkerton mercenaries and such.

@Teslaconomics and @mtaibbi and other such relatively insignificant persons can't afford legions of private soldiers or secret island fortresses, so they have to trust to "home security"...and the purported invulnerability of their *cars*. the car is their mini-fortress.

the car is also sold, falsely, as the acme of human #science and #technology, as if nothing better or more helpful or more useful had ever resulted from human science and engineering than a @Tesla car. the conceit is plainly ludicrous; the car is not *necessary*.

there are other methods of transporting human beings; if for some reason we had no motorcars, society would go on functioning much as it already does. probably *better*, in fact, because the personal automobile is extremely *wasteful* and damaging to the landscape.

American cities, in particular, squander enormous amounts of land and resources simply to give *cars* a place to go. @Teslaconomics is helping _destroy America_, simply because of their childlike fixation on automobiles and the false sense of independence they bring...

and @elonmusk profits immensely from @Teslaconomics's childishness, and from the immaturity of every @Tesla devotee who wants to pretend, when they're driving a car, that they're piloting an unconquerable starship.
