We've reached day 350 of #Russia's insane war on #Ukraine
Here's another daily thread.
Tense scenes at the front with pressure mounting on #Bakhmut every hour, but fewer attacks in the rest of Ukraine. #Kharkiv was shelled last night, you can recap here
First an update from #Kharkiv, no civilians were injured in the shelling as S-300s hit the city centre.
Four rockets hit "a civil industry facility" where there was also a large fire after the impact with buildings completely destroyed.
Missiles also landed in the Central Park.
This morning there have also been two attacks already in #Mykolaiv region.
At 6 o'clock shells hit #Ochakiv on the coast and a little over an hour later #Kutsurub, jusy 7km up the coast was targeted. No further news yet.
Another astonishing number of dead Russians falling in #Ukraine yesterday according to Kyiv.
Down on Tuesday's record, but it is a 2-day all-time high with almost 2,000 killed in 48 hours.
Difficult to say how many Ukrainians are being killed but #Russia loses far, far more.
1/2 Big problems for the occupied citizens in #Melitopol
Almost everyone found themselves without internet despite paying up front. The Ukrainian provider had been stolen by the invaders, but then stopped working. Now a new "Russian" company appeared. People are mde to pay again
2/2 The other problem is pensions. #Russia is refusing to pay pensioners with #Ukraine passports in #Melitopol.
#Ukraine has been paying pensions but now all contact with Ukrainian accounts + banks is banned so old people have no way of getting cash, unless they take 🇷🇺passport
It's all about the river Dnipro for Britain's Intel briefing today. A side battle in #Kherson (and #Mykolaiv) region is control of the myriad islands, bits of land and routes through the river in southern #Ukraine
Back to #Kharkiv where it's now known #Russia hit Beketov National University of Urban Economy.
Specialists are trying to make the ruins and the rubble safe on the 4th and 5th floors safe.
S-300s are unreliable but I can't see a military target near here.
Saw a video yesterday, here's a screenshot. #Russia thinks this is positive PR, the mind boggles.
These women have all lost their sons or husbands, but never mind they get a new fur coat from the Terrorist State. Fair swap?
A monument to Soviet soldiers in central #Kyiv will soon be destroyed.
Localshave long since wondered why statues of Valery Chkalov (Chkalov Sq) and here Nikolai Vatutin (in Mariinskyi Park) have survived.
The Ministry of Culture has finally agreed a permit for dismantling them
The man expected to be made #Ukraine's new Minister of Defence next week, thinks the war will end in May.
Kyrylo Budanov, who's likely to replace Oleksii Reznikov, says "In the spring, military actions will resume and Ukraine will return to the borders of 1991."
For what it's worth I also thought May was a realistic timeline for when things could come to a head, including dissent back home for Putin.
But I did not factor in the pitifully slow response from #Ukrine's western allies which makes a May victory less likely now.
President @ZelenskyyUa will arrive in the UK today. It will be his second trip outside #Ukraine since war began.
President #Zelenskyy has just touched down at Stansted.
He's now on his way to #London where he will speak with MPs and meet King Charles at Buckingham Palace.
Volodymyr #Zelenskyy's motorcade is well en route to Westminster.
The President will meet Ukrainian military personnel who are undergoing training in the #UK.
It's also believed Zelenskyy's visit will see the UK announce it is starting to train Ukraine military pilots.
Looks like Boris got back from his US trip two days ago.
Wonder if BoJo will manage to get a personal meeting with @ZelenskyyUa?
Rishi Sunak DID break protocol and rush to Stansted to meet Zelenskyy personally when he touched down. #StandWithUkraine
#Zelenskyy on Telegram posted that last photo himself and also wrote:
"The United Kingdom was one of the first to come to Ukraine's aid. And today I'm in London to personally thank the British people for their support and Prime Minister Rishi Sunak for his leadership." 🇺🇦🇬🇧
President @ZelenskyyUa's convoy has entered Downing Street
The puppet head of the so called "#Luhansk people's republic" has admitted problems for #Russia's offensive.
Leonid Pasechnik said "#Ukraine accumulated sufficient reserves in #Svatove and #Kreminna to counterattack. The situation on the frontline remains very difficult."
There were 11 vehicles in #Zelenskyy's motorcade. Numerous advisers and security personnel came with him.
One of the most important announcements today is that UK will train #Ukraine pilots. So they must be training them on NATO style jets, such as Eurofighter Typhoons etc.
#Russia announces it has 'denazified' the offices of Jehovah's Witnesses in #Skadovsk in occupied #Kherson.
They describe and show "extremist material" such as audio cassettes, alternative medicine books and cards requesting no blood transfusions due to religious beliefs.
Britain's Opposition Leader Keir Starmer puts aside party politics and uses all his questions in PMQs to #StandWithUkraine
He demanded Putin is not appeased, says the Labour Party believes in #Ukraine's victory and also called for Russian sanctioned funds to be given to Ukraine
Zelenskyy is about to start addressing both Houses of Parliament at Westminster Hall
"We have freedom. Gives us wings to protect it."
The words on the helmet of one of #Ukraine's pilots, given as a present to Speaker of the House of Commons, whom Zelenskyy first met pre-war and was treated to Chorley cake!
President Zelenskyy shook the hands of Opposition front benchers and leaders of other political parties.
He also had words with the 3 previous PMs, Theresa May, Liz Truss and @BorisJohnson whom he namechecked in the speech.
Boris was prevented from following Ze out of the hall
It's reported from French sources that Zelenskyy will head straight to Paris this evening where he will meet personally with the leaders of both #France and #Germany.
Dutch prosectors publish a new 66 page report into the #MH17 massacre.
They're pretty clear Putin knew and allowed the Buk missile to be transported to, and used by, #Russia's invading forces in #Ukraine, but there was not enough evidence to prosectute. prosecutionservice.nl/documents/publ…
Been out of action due to tennis commentary but not too much action this afternoon.
Now reports of explosions in occupied #Berdyansk, one of the ports in #Donetsk.
No confirmation but multiple reports.
#Russia's fighter aircraft killed two civilians this afternoon in #Chernihiv oblast.
Two air to surface missiles hit an industrial building in the #Semenivka district - #Ukraine's army published these photos.
Some people were still feared to be under the rubble.
Rishu Sunak is reportedly seeing what planes the UK can send to #Ukraine. The answer may be none. Our old stock was sold to #Germany years ago for parts, or sit outside various RAF stations as momuments.
We can offer excellent training on all modern models though.
Two more civilians have been killed by another #Russia attack on #Kharkiv region.
Shelling the Kupiansk and Chuhuiv districts once againm a 48 year old man and a woman aged 45 became the lastest victims. Five others were also wounded.
The ship which was carrying #Bradley fighting machines from the USA, has turned on its Automatic identification systems (AIS) transponders. It's just left #Antwerp in Belgium by the look of things.
Hopefully it arrived a while ago and the cargo is already in, or near #Ukraine.
Here is my daily thread number 351 on the #Russia-#Ukraine war. One for each day of the war.
News and analysis of all events covering #Putin's illegal war.
Yesterday's thread was limited by Twitter.
I (and most others) were unable to post after 9.30pm UK time. #StandWithUkraine
In case you were wondering about that tweet which couldn't be loaded, I found it quite amusing as Chancellor Scholz went straight past his flag and to the #Ukraine lectern before being corrected by Zelenskyy!
President @ZelenskyyUa is now arriving in #Brussels to meet EU officials as he continues his mission to get fighter aircraft for #Ukraine.
We've had almost a year now and it really angers me that no-one foresaw this. We never truly protected Ukraine as Russia controls the skies.
Hello and welcome to day 349 of #Russia's war of choice.
#Ukraine still defends valiantly, but the west's tardiness to act has placed them under severe pressure for the next 6 weeks until trained troops return with some new toys.
All the news in one thread, read on...
First the link to yesterday in case you were busy or just want a summary.
A lot of flim flam was written but actually you missed very little. Here's one of the shortest threads of the last 11 months so far:
The further Russification of #Ukraine's lands continue. Any wonder Ukraine has been removing all traces of past links with Russia anywhere that freedom still exists?
#Russia's losses in the last 24 hours (estimated by Kyiv) show very little equipment destroyed but still insane amounts of conscripts and mobilised soldiers killed.
