Folks, we know some things by light of nature and conscience. They're imperfect guides but also gifts from God. Use them. Stop proof texting
If you take "the Bible does not say" to the conclusion some folks take it to, then you'd never say anything in difficult situations.
The Bible is sufficient but it is not exhaustive. We're told all God wanted to tell us but we also have to use the minds God gave us.
The Bible does not give us any laws re: abortion, but we know what conclusions we should reach and most don't have any problems doing so.
In the same way, when the Bible says LOVE the sojourner/foreigner and treat them justly, we should be able to reach some conclusions easily.
But I'm watching Bible-believing folks set aside their Bibles "b/c it doesn't demand x policy" only to adopt US law as more authoritative???
It's an odd thing... watching Bible believers actually set the Bible aside as insufficient in order to cling to fallible human laws.
One wonders if we revere our Bibles more or the framing documents more. Some talk with more passion about Constitution than scripture.
I'd rather risk an opinion with a sufficient though not exhaustive Bible than resort to man-made civil laws as though final authority.
But, hey, that's just me. I actually think the Bible is enough for us even when it comes to thinking through matters it's not explicit about
So next time you're tempted to say "the Bible does not command this or that policy," ask yourself whose command you're substituting instead.
Good night, y'all.
