If you do community, social justice, general "do-good-help-others" work, you need to think about how to make it financially sustainable asap
I've been doing community for years, and I've seen *so* many great projects come and go. People start them full of ambition and excitement
They put their heart (and sometimes money) into it. It gets popular enough to take up significant time, too much time, too much space
But no one's paying for that work. And as much I love doing community work, it is a very specific type of exhausting
It's very public, you always have to be "on", and you're entire job is serving others while everyone watches, and hoping you do right by ppl
It's very rewarding, but it is also actual work. And if you're not getting paid for it, you'll start to resent it.
I've gotten tons of DMs/emails from people who tried to do the community thing and burnt out.
They got a lot of RTs, hugs, and high-fives, but that doesn't pay the bills.
So if you're doing community work, or thinking about starting something, treat it like you would a job, bc eventually it'll feel that way
Think about sustainability as soon as you can. You deserve it, and your community will be far better off ❤️
