Explanation of Single-Payer.

amp.timeinc.net/time/money/473…
I'm not a scholar by any means, but I've certainly been around the block & I have a bachelor's in psychology w/minor in business mgmt. 1/x
Going directly from what we have to single-payer would shock our economy, as healthcare contributes 1/6 of our current economy. 2/x
Instead of single payer, I think we should consider a three pronged approach. 1. If people have adequate healthcare through work, 3/x
they should be able to keep it. 2. If people qualify for Medicaid, they should be able to keep it. 3. If people qualify for Medicare or 4/x
don't qualify for any coverage, they should get Medicare. 5/x
Beyond that, a state or the federal government could chose to pay the premium for work insurance, if someone meets qualifications. 6/x
A state or government could also chose to pay the premium for COBRA for a person/family who meet certain qualifications. 7/x
In order for this type of a plan to work, the government would have to assure that coverage is equal no matter what state you live in 8/x
or what type of coverage you have. The government would also have to do something about cost of prescription medications. 9/x
The government would also have to find a way to cover the cost, which I'm sure means increased taxes, especially on the rich. End
