#HowIWillChange: Recognise I don't need to be a perpetrator to be a bad guy. Questioning harassment, not doing anything about it—all as bad.
#HowIWillChange: I'll do all this without expecting to be congratulated or praised since women do the heavy lifting every other fucking day.
#HowIWillChange: Recognise anything we offer to do using this hashtag is already done by women every day and they cop endless abuse for it.
As men get all the praise for #HowIWillChange, this is how many women experience/feel.

I wanna share my thoughts about believing women who claim they've been sexually assaulted. I normally tend to listen in on these convos and never comment publicly, but I feel my thoughts will be helpful to folks. Namely, black men, especially, need to do better on this subject.
I'll start off by saying that I have learned so much by listening to women share their stories of assault and had no idea how abusive men are. That ignorance shows how being a man can inoculate us from the harm women face everyday. That, in itself, is troubling.
As a man, I really have not had to consider dangers to my body in remotely the same way a woman has to on a daily basis. I also admit that, for a long time, I was pretty ignorant of the workplace and casual abuse women deal with. #MeToo has been an education.

This last paragraph is a disgusting note to finish the piece with, in my opinion.

The #MeToo Pulitzers make me happy. Without the reporting of @jodikantor & @mega2e & @RonanFarrow, I can't imagine the rest of us coming forward. I will forever be grateful to them and the women who spoke to them on and off the record for starting this seismic shift.
I wonder if the Weinstein victims and accusers feel a sense of resolution. I don't.
So many possible similes: a scab that won't heal, one that's mostly itchy but sometimes opens up. An ugly old shirt I'd dumped in the back of my closet and forgotten I had, and now that I've shaken it out and shown it to the world, I can't stop wearing it. Or choose not to.

I've read several threads by black women about their experiences mirroring those of the woman with Ansari. They are gripping, brave, painful. They evoke the fear of reprisal & how sexual agency shifts.
I am not RTing because I don't want to encourage trolling.
But I thank them.
The fact is millions of women have had this experience precisely because we DO exert power over our own sexual agency. But that power ceases when the man chooses to ignore consent being withdrawn. The facile "just leave" narrative white women are pushing we've heard before.
For generations women have been told there's a point where they are no longer allowed to withdraw consent.
That narrative must end. For women to have true sexual agency and choice, men must assent to follow the rules and not impose their own or the threat of violence.
