/ What I do when I have something I need to express when I'm angry, but don't want to regret it, is I first write it down.
/ I include the emotions, the judgments, the ugliness, the anger, everything. Then I set it aside for a day or a week, not too long tho.
/ Then I start editing it. I start by asking myself analytical questions about what I previously tried to say.
/ Once I'm done with the self-inquisition. I rewrite it all. Devoid of any emotion. But it's definitely not done yet. It's still not honest
/ The initial rewrite may take an hour, or a month. It depends on how I handle the forced detachment.
/ Then after the first rewrite is done, I revisit it, and the original. I ask myself WHY I included the judgments and vitriol in the first.
/ Then I start weaving those details, as appropriate, what I felt, when i felt it, why I felt it. But I keep an eye on accusatory language.
/ It's seldom helpful. Sometimes it actually is, but it's dicey. Once that's complete, then I consider it my rough draft.
/ As you all know, a rough draft is not ready to be published. But sometimes I say "fuck it" and tweet it anyway. never without a once over
/ If I want it to be taken as seriously as possible, I break out Strunk and White and other guides on writing and get to work.
/ Earlier this year I had to do this exact set of steps relative to some severe mistreatment at the hands of a coworker.
/ HR took the complaints I lodged very seriously, so seriously so that my abuser nearly lost his job on the spot.
/ Is it a lot of work? Yes. Is it unfair when you've been mistreated to have to go through such pains? yes.
/ The most important question is, tho: Is it highly effective?

FUCK YES!
/ Fair or not. Using your brain, the power of expressive, yet accurate language, and VERIFIABLE FACTS, will give you an edge.
/ So if you find yourself as angry as Thurman, over whatever it is, I highly recommend this approach. It's not easy. But it is worth it.
