Ok, time for a quick recap of the results of last night! It was an incredible result that proved that Democrats working hard can win big. Here we go! 1/ #Virginia
First of all, @RalphNortham comfortably won the Governorship with 53.7% to Ed Gillespie’s 45.1%. Kudos to him, we are so happy to have you as Governor! And kudos to his primary challenger, @tomperriello for working so hard to get Northam elected. Very inspiring
Then, congratulations to @fairfaxforlg for winning the Lt Gov race against “vaginal ultrasound” Jill Vogel! Justin Fairfax is the second Black person to win in statewide office in #Virginia. 👏🎉🎉
And kudos to AG @MarkHerringVA for being re elected Atty Gen! We know how @DemocraticAGs are the frontline of resistance to Trump, so this is great news!
Then, the House of Delegates, where the earthquake happened! In HD2, @JCarrollFoy won w 62.72% (!!) of the vote in a seat vacated by the R incumbent. She will be one of the first public defender at the Gen Assembly!
In HD10, @WendyforDel won and will become Del. Gooditis! She defeated incumbent Republican Randy Minchew in a fairly red District w 51.95%. KUDOS!
In the red Blacksburg area not far from Roanoke, @ChrisHurstVA defeated the incumbent R. He’s a journalist and gun sense advocate who ran a very inspiring campaign supported by groups like @Hurst4Students !
In one of most historic wins of last night, @pwcdanica defeated Bob Marshall, Del since 1992 (!!) bathroom bill advocate. That this enemy of trans rights was defeated by a trans woman is incredible, but @pwcdanica deserves huge kudos for a great campaign focused on local issues!
In HD21, @VoteforFowler won w 52.59% of vote against the current Chair of the Transportation Committee in Virginia Beach. So excited for Delegate Fowler!
In HD31, the GOP incumbent who truly outdid himself with racist mailers, was defeated by one of the two first Latina women in the VA General Assembly, @guzman4delegate !
I’m HD32, Navy veteran and small business @DavidReidVA comfortably won w 58.55% of the vote against the GOP incumbent in the Ashburn area.
In a race that will go to recount, @Tanner4Delegate won w 68 additional votes over Tim Hugo, Majority Caucus Chairman and member since 2003. What a feat!
In HD42, a seat vacated by the incumbent, @KathyKLTran won with 61.02% of the vote. She is the first Asian-American woman elected to the #Virginia General Assembly!
In HD50, DSA supported candidate @carterforva won with 54.43% of the vote against the GOP Majority whip and member since 2006. Great win in Prince William Co/Manassas!
In HD67, @KarrieKDelaney unseated the GOP incumbent w 57.85% of vote. Fairfax and Loudoun delivering some great blue wins !
In HD68, another race that will probably go to recount, @AdamsForDel unseated incumbent Manoli Loupassi in the Henrico/Richmond area w 326 votes. Every vote counts!! 🗳
In HD73 @debrarodman73 won over Del O Bannon with 788 votes! (Might go to recount but seems safe). O Bannon has been in the Gen Assembly since 2001 & lost to a fantastic educator and advocate !
I managed to forget HD51, where @HalaAyala won and will be one of first two Latina delegates in the Virginia Gen Assembly! Historic wins all over #Virginia
This is getting out of order, but doesn’t matter! In HD72, @VVforDelegate , who has been a middle school and high school teacher for 12 years, won w 52.83% of the vote !
Finally, in HD85, @ct_4_vab won with about 400 votes more than her opponent GOP incumbent, in the Virginia Beach area. Kudos !
These are SIXTEEN WINS!!!!! It puts - w recounts pending - the VA Gen Assembly at 50 R- 50D. Now want to give a shout out to the Dems that came short but did such great work
This list is SO impressive because it is thanks to these numerous Dem candidates that the Dem turnout was so energized, even where they came short: this matters so much for the top of the ticket, but also for future elections. I doubt we’ve seen the last of them!
Finally there are 3 races currently led by GOP but that are headed to recount: HD94 w @shelly_simonds (they are separated by TWELVE votes), HD27 w @Barnett4Del (114 votes difference) & HD28 w @JCole4VA (86 votes difference). These recounts will decide control of the House
