I was out of town that weekend, but I had friends who were at school at the time. Hiding wherever they could. Using social media to alert others and notify family members
At the time, when the bodies of the students were found, the military said they were drug dealers/gang members.
It wasn't until T-W-O days later, when family members identified the bodies that the real story came out. A-grade students with a promising future who were shot without a second thought
Where the military planted guns on the bodies, moved them and removed ids - one of the college students was even punched in the face before being shot
The families had to wait 7 - yes 7 years to see any sort of justice - and fought tirelessly against a machine who actively sought to portray these 2 students as narcos
Mexican Congress just fucking passed a law that will probably multiply cases like this - only this time the legal consequences could be utterly non-existent for the military
