I've seen at least one pro-Houthi journalist claim that ex-president Saleh is dead, but there's no reason to take that seriously at this point, yet.
Wow, there are now pictures purporting to be of Saleh's body circulating. So far not validated as true, but notable. Graphic.
Official Houthi sources are claiming that Saleh has been killed in Sanaa.
Another picture from another angle also claimed to be of ex-Yemeni president's dead body.
If true, then what an end to one of the Arab world's most slippery political figures. Killed in Sanaa by the people he allied with to take over Sanaa.
With more pictures streaming in, this is looking more legit. Graphic photos.
These don't look photoshopped. Unless this is a lookalike, it seems like ex-Yemeni president Ali Abdullah Saleh is dead.
Ali Abdullah Saleh ruled Yemen (first north Yemen, then all of Yemen) from 1978 until the 2011 Yemeni revolution forced him to resign in 2012.
He was badly burned in an assassination attempt in 2011, which he survived thanks to urgent Saudi medical attention & treatment.
From 2012 till 2014 he worked behind the scenes, allying with former opponents, the Houthis, to institute a coup and take over Yemen.
In 2011 Saleh was a Saudi ally and the Houthi's enemy. In 2014 he flipped, allying with the Houthis against the Saudi coalition. A few days ago he flipped again, turning on the Houthis and opening channels with the Saudis.
And now, it looks like the very Houthis he allied with to take over his former capital, Sanaa, have killed him. In his former capital, Sanaa.
Video (graphic, be warned). He's dead.
Reminds of Gaddafi's end, who ruled for decades and was killed by Libyan rebels near his home town in October 2011.
I won't mourn any tyrant regardless who kills him or how he dies. Even if I protest their mistreatment during their last hours, I won't mourn or miss them.
