I downloaded tweets linking Russia Insider from the last ten days, and plotted the retweet/reply relationships. There are various interesting things to see here.
is an account that caught my eye in the retweet network for Russia Insider. This account is largely in Japanese, and frequently links Russia Today and Sputnik in addition to Russia Insider.
This pie chart shows the media websites most frequently linked by @trappedsoldier. Russian media accounts for 52% of the volume, four times that of Japanese sites.
Here's @trappedsoldier's tweet schedule in both Japan (UTC+9) and Moscow (UTC+3) time, for the sake of comparison.
We've previously come across a network of likely Kremlin agitprop accounts that tweet in Japanese. As an additional interesting twist, @trappedsoldier interacts with a number of the major accounts in this group.
For reference, here's the original thread on Japanese-language agitprop accounts.
Bots are another thing to look for in the Russia Insider retweet network. One way to find automated activity is to identify accounts that tweet round the clock, and confirm that at least some of the tweets have been posted via something other than the Twitter website/app.
Among the 3426 accounts that have linked Russia Insider in the past 10 days, 121 accounts match that description. They have a variety of posting schedules; here are some of the more interesting ones.
Some of the accounts in this set turned up in a previous analysis of automated activity connected to a specific Russia Insider article. Here's the previous thread.
