Educators in West Virginia are letting the governor know that, despite his wishes, the #WVTeacherStrike is not over.
Last night, on the 4th day of the #WVTeacherStrike, @WVGovernor announced that teachers would receive a 5% pay increase next year, and all state employees would get a 3% raise. He was hoping the deal would end the strike.
But #WVteachers pointed out that the main reason they started striking in the first place wasn’t addressed in the gov.’s deal: a funding fix for the Public Employee Insurance Agency (PEIA).
Find more background on the #WVTeacherStrike here. It has to do with demanding better insurance benefits and salary increases.

As part of the wage increase deal, @WVGovernor asked teachers to prepare to go back to work on Thursday. But they were chanting this today at the State Capitol:
“This wasn’t about a raise at all, it was about PEIA. And it was about all public employees, not just [teachers].”
“Back to the table. Fix PEIA.”

Teachers union leaders told local reporters that they're speaking with gov’t officials, including Gov. Jim Justice, about the proposed salary increase and #PEIA. The closed-door meetings are ongoing.
Earlier today, @WVGovernor had to dispel rumors that he had resigned.
Hundreds have called for @WVGovernor to resign during the #WVTeacherStrike. Many feel he handled the work stoppage poorly.
