It’s worth a quick recap of the events of today:

A constituent urges @JamesFrith to challenge anti-Semitism in the Labour Party.

@SJLSouthworth responds to declare the suggestion of Labour anti-semitism “total nonsense” and it doesn’t matter anyway as voters don’t care.

This was then highlighted by myself and many others. Then a Labour member charges in to defend @SJLSouthworth as all this alleged anti-Semitism is because of the Israeli government and the “Jewish lobby”

Then another Bury Labour Councillor, @sjsouthworth demanded evidence of Labour anti-Semitism from @JamesFrith ‘s constituent who first raised the issue.

I pointed @sjsouthworth in the direction of the above Labour member’s blatantly anti-Semitic comment *on that very thread* to which she replied that she still couldn’t see any examples.

I then desperately tried to give her the benefit of the doubt and gave her multiple opportunities to make it clear she recognised claims of Israeli and “Jewish lobby” attempts to destabilise the Labour Party as being anti-Semitic. She made it very clear she had no problem with it

I tried once again to get both Bury Labour councillors to condemn the *blantant anti-Semitism* and was met with dismissal and sarcasm.

No attempts from either @SJLSouthworth or @sjsouthworth to take anti-Semitism seriously. They just dismissed it and went in for pretty pathetic insults.

In the meantime, a large number of Jewish people tweeted at both Bury Labour Councillors highlighting their own concerns and experiences. All ignored or dismissed.

I have to admit I’m bitterly bitterly disappointed. Anti-Semitism clearly a big problem in Labour nationally & Bury Labour have previously been rightly vocal on it. To see Labour Councillors in a borough with a large Jewish population act this way is a genuine shock.

I hope that @JamesFrith, @CllrRShori and @IvanLewis_MP make it clear that they are appalled by the behaviour of two Bury Labour Councillors this evening.
