For some reasons, this announcement is somewhat special for me ("disclosure" included in the thread).
In early 2016, while I was looking for fundings, the team of what would later become CypherTrace, contacted me for the acquisition of OXT.
Since I've always envisioned OXT as a public source of information, I proposed a different model with a license allowing CT to run their own private version of OXT.
We also discussed that CT may ask for improvements developed by OXT which would be cheaper if they accepted to share the code with the public version of OXT.
But I finally declined the offer because I wasn't 100% sure that I could manage the diverging priorities and goals of the 2 projects (sorry S. for your time lost in these discussions. No malice intended).
So, during the 2 following years, I've funded the platform by working on misc "red blockchain" projects and I started collaborations with several privacy-oriented projects. And finally, at the end of 2017...

By an "ironic" turn of events (and personal choices) what could have been the foundations of a tool used by the SEC is finally a tool and a team 100% dedicated to improve Bitcoin privacy.
I guess that it's a good example of what Prigogine called bifurcations leading to very different outcomes :D

A few random thoughts about the recent announcement of Bitcoin addresses entering the OFAC list of sanctioned parties.
An obvious question here is: What does it mean when we say "nobody is permitted to engage in any transaction with one these addresses" ?
First answer: you shouldn't accept a transaction sending bitcoins to you if some of the utxos spent by this transaction are "related" to one these addresses.

Managing the fragmentation of their utxo set will become a critical factor for BTC services.
For example, this entity (oxt.me/entity/tiid/48…) is a wallet controlled by Coinbase. To date, it owns around 203 BTC split in 1,464,545 utxos !
With BTC at $15.8k, it means $3.2M with an average utxo value of 2.2$. #DustInTheChain
This fragmentation is the result of 2 factors: a real business success and a long failure at optimizing their processes (batch transfers, etc).

RBI revealed this in an RTI: At the end of March 2018, a record high 7,990 borrowers of above Rs 5 crore had not repaid a whopping Rs 3.71 lakh crore to banks for 1-30 days after due date. That is a four-year high record of early defaulters! 1/n
2/n. These early defaults rose by a record 281.9 per cent over December 2017 when they stood at only Rs 972 billion . On a year-on-year basis, the rise is almost 228 per cent - the highest growth of early stage overdue repayments in 4 years.
3/n. More than 5,000 of these 7,990 were new and unique early defaulters of loans above Rs 5 crore. What does this number tell us? We have been told that all bad loans are of UPA era. This number tells us that Modi govt might be brewing its own banking crisis as well.
