There will never be another Sean Taylor. The NFL is outlawing future versions. No more enforcers over the middle. That said, it was only a part of his game. He was such a talent. But no one else will be allowed to play like this again ⬇️⬇️⬇️
He could run with the fastest WR in the league and could jump with him too. Whether it was the Vikings Randy Moss ...
or the Raiders Randy Moss...
Sean Taylor could beat LaDainian Tomlinson to the edge and destroy a 255lb Lorenzo Neal on the same play...
and level Priest Holmes like it was easy work...
this was a simpler time, when both Sean Taylor and the ball carrier could lower their helmets, and the announcer could call the referee a jackass on air...
they most definitely did not administer a sideline concussion test on this hit with some helmet to helmet elements...
but so many of Taylor’s hits did NOT feature helmet to helmet. He was tremendous at hitting hard w/ his shoulders & avoiding helmet to helmet. However, frequently he “lowers his head to initiate & make contact with his helmet against an opponent. This player may be disqualified.”
this was hailed as a “picture perfect tackle”, and it was. The question becomes, is “was” the operative word? Will this lowering of the helmet, regardless of the non-helmet to helmet contact, still be cool with the NFL?
this tackle seems so innocuous, yet on the second angle it’s clear Taylor is lowering his helmet and leading with it, even though doesn’t come close to the opponent’s head and he still wraps up. Will this be a “good tackle” in 2018 as the announcers repeat multiple times?
“when he’s on the field, you gotta get out of the way if you’re standing around the football...he’ll hurt you...he hurts his own people.”
sometimes his style of play didn’t just hurt his opponents or teammates, he hurt himself...
sometimes he was actually flagged for such hits. This one might be an ejection in 2018, of one of the NFL’s best safeties in the 4th quarter of a tied game...
“TO is leveled by Sean Taylor. Taylor put the leather to him, baby! Wow, what a shot. That's what you call hitting. He remembered coming across the middle at FedEx field and Sean Taylor hitting him across the face with a forearm, that's what he remembers.”
Sean Taylor is playing press man and STILL makes the play on the ball 17 yards down the field. Remember how long that Leftwich delivery was? He coaches quarterbacks now....
People forget that Sean Taylor wanted to be on kickoff coverage. He LOVED it. He laid the lumber there as well...
This is one hell of a vicious hit. Biggest ? with the new rule is whether or not ejections will be reactionary. If this receiver was concussed and dropped the ball, would it be an ejection? But if the receiver jumps up after the TD catch, like this, is it officiated differently?
2006: Sean Taylor is a freak, refereeing is terrible
2018: Sean Taylor is a freak, refereeing is terrible
After the idiot kicker’s attempt was blocked, Taylor’s ridiculous return and the Cowboys penalty allowed for an untimed down. The Redskins actually won this game in regulation. This was Bill Parcells final season as a NFL coach.
This is how you hunt the QB when you’re 10 yds off the line of scrimmage. Like a heat seeking missile...
nothing special about this play other than the piledriver was not flagged...and John Fox smacked his head after he was just piledriven and possibly concussed
This was a Gregg Williams angel defense, so safeties were 15+ yds from the LOS at times, often allowing huge gains. Taylor slips and still builds up enough force to knock the snot out of Tiki Barber.
Sean Taylor’s final season. It was just his 4th season in the NFL...he was 24. Separating ball from receiver. “Sean Taylor...decked him... ooooh I love that kind of hit”
This could be a 2017 Manning pick as much as it was 2007:
✅ bad pass protection
✅ running for his life
✅ launches a 🚀 to a random location
✅ easily intercepted
✅ pounds fist on ground
✅ looks away in disgust
Note: this year, Eli beat the 18-0 Patriots in the Super Bowl
"man, he just decked one of the Lions, and the guy is out... We've got a real injury here...because I mean...I think that Sean Taylor just nailed a guy...if it wasn't Sean Taylor...I didn't get the number...but it looked like a Sean Taylor hit..."
This one is for the Gregg Williams angel defense. (This was Brett Favre’s final year as a Packer.)
This game was 6 weeks before Sean Taylor died. It was his only multi-interception game of his pro career. He not only covered immense ground to make this play (see skycam angle), he composed himself after the full spring to juggle, catch & get both feet inbounds.
This was INT #2 of the afternoon. These 2 interceptions were #278 and 279 for Favre, breaking the NFL record for most interceptions in a career (George Blanca had 277).
Last complete game. His presence was feared. "He short-armed it, because he saw Sean Taylor through his peripheral vision. He sure darn did there, because he had him open. Sean was coming though...here comes a torpedo. He was going to lay him out, so he did those alligator arms"

Sean Taylor’s final game. His injuries here (sprained RT knee) forced him to miss the next 2 weeks. Taylor went home to MIA while WAS played in TB. Late that Sunday night, he was shot by burglars in his femoral artery at his MIA home, while defending his fiancée & 18mo daughter.
Sean Taylor was built & hit like a linebacker, could cover like a corner, had the speed & ball skills of a WR, w the instincts of a vet. His physical style isn’t allowed anymore & I’ll quote tweet the 1st tweet of this thread to get Sean Taylor to infinity
