I said yesterday that I would tweet storm in response to this article by Jon Margolis claiming that women have won parity with men regarding elective office since lots of women are running for office this year.
vtdigger.org/2018/03/30/mar…
First, he ignores why: Hillary Clinton and how American women feel robbed.
Second, he cites approvingly the 18% in the House, 22% in the Senate, and the 40% in Vermont of women office holders. He says, “oh that is probably enough to be heard.”
We are 50% of the population but he thinks only having 40% representation is perfectly fine.

Which I am sure he would absolutely okay with if the numbers were reversed. Or only 18% of men were in the House.
*stage whisper* He wouldn't be.
When women have a seat at the table, our concerns are heard. Our priorities worked on. Our issues resolved.
This does not happen when you do not have a seat at the table.
There are other reasons for women needing to achieve office holding parity rather than merely lots of women running for office:
Another reason is of course that society itself benefits since women tend to think socially and not personally.
In addition to the fact that women get more of things we care about done, women tend to be more productive.
This is true even in the United States. The number of bills passed under Pelosi’s leadership in the House v the two men before and after her.
It even impacted Reid's numbers and made them look better, as is show by total bills passed by the end of the year:
Here's the total for the Reid years:
These numbers for Pelosi? They show WHY the Republicans hate having her in charge of the Democratic House.

She kicks their pasty white rumps in her five inch stilettos.
Women being in office also means that government is more effective.
The biggest difference appears to be that women want to get shit done and move the fuck on to the next problem.
This is the article I am quoting from by the way: cupola.gettysburg.edu/cgi/viewconten…
Having more women in government is not going to be a perfect solution by any means: Rwanda has had a majority female government in the legislature for years and it hasn't quite meant improvement in lives for women on a personal level.
But it has helped keep Rwanda at peace and in prosperity. Same goes for Liberia with Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf where this year there was a peaceful transfer of power.
Here at home in the United States, where we have fought for these gains, the real impact of women in office isn’t simply more and better government.
It is about women being full members of our society in all aspects from the home to the very top of power.
Also, fuck him for saying Clinton was a bad candidate. She kicked ass.
