Fun fact: this tweet is almost entirely wrong.
What was happening in 1944? 🤔🤔🤔
Oh right, WWII.
FDR was running for a fourth term not because he was super gung ho about socialism but because he wanted to keep the same hand on the ship's rudder despite that hand becoming visibly shaky.
How do we know? Because he had an avowed progressive lefty as his VP. Henry Wallace is the effective Bernie Sanders. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_A._…
He didn't just want to give people a chance, he actively worked to get things done that he actually managed to do.
Harry S Truman, on the other hand, was not known for being Mr. Lefty. The Midwestern Missouri farmer was famous for his committee to cut waste from the war effort.
He had zero enemies in Washington or the DNC at the time. He was known as a New Deal type Democrat who hated Wall Street like everyone else did but he was also a machine politics politician.
Wallace had the enmity of the party bosses at the time and so Truman it was.
Truman, in retrospect, was a brilliant choice. Why? Because he had the fortitude to handle the massive and crushing responsibilities that being the President at the end of WWII required.
*NOT* because he was some socialist. While Truman was not scared of the term socialist, he wasn't one. He knew and told people about the difference: trumanlibrary.org/publicpapers/i…
On top of the evidence that FDR hadn't gone off the deep end into socialism-here is the 1944 Democratic Platform: presidency.ucsb.edu/ws/index.php?p…
So that is why that tweet was wrong.

And why Democrats have a long ass history of fighting for the little guy. Even if we haven't always done it right
But we aren't socialists and never have been.
