Police say Project Mercury, a three-year-investigation, looked into online sexual abuse of children and involved law enforcement agencies from several countries, including Canada, the U.K. and the U.S.
Police say some of the details that they will reveal are disturbing.
Police say the investigation looked into alleged live streaming of sexual abuse acts against children, some as young as 10 months old.
Police say that in their investigation, they came across the live abuse of young children for the pleasure of the abuser, as well as for a participating online audience.
Investigators say 13 children who were allegedly being abused have now been rescued in the U.S. alone.
Investigators say 79 people have been arrested as part of the investigation, including teachers, doctors and priests.
Other people arrested include a youth worker, charity worker and a nurse, investigators say.
Police say they are urging anyone with a sexual interest in children to come forward to police or to a doctor to get treatment.
Police say the abuse was broadcast over a variety of social media platforms.
Police say CAMH has qualified practitioners who can treat those with a sexual interest in children and they urge anyone interested in such material to stop viewing it.
Police say technology has provided tools that multiply the potential for child sex abuse.
