The state of French-language tech news is, honestly, deplorable. I feel sorry for those who don’t have the luxury of being bilingual.

French people shouldn’t have to turn to English-language news just to get an actual overview of what’s going on.

Where’s the journalism?
In @cgiorgi’s Facebook group, the most common complaint is that there’s not enough “off the record” talk.

But plenty of people will go on the record to credible journalists who earn the respect of their audience.

We need more brand-name tech journalists.
Don’t get me wrong, @romaindillet & @obrien do a great job, but their audience numbers (in France) Paul in comparison to all the “here’s what you missed this week” FrenchTech blogs.
Most french tech news sites are competing with AFP & major media to translating what they read in NYT/TC into French in order to get attention. There’s no unique perspective.

Ironically, @bifrance, which openly translates its authors articles, has some of the best journalists.
Where’s the article about @bnbsitter’s entire engineering team appearing on recruiting sites overnight?
Why don’t we read about how VivaTech bad mouthed startups in their internal communication tools if they aren’t paying stupid amounts of money for a stand?
All the FrenchTech blogs hailed PrestaShop for hiring a female CEO, and only Frenchweb covered the change this year, without asking the question “what went wrong?”

Instead we read about how we need more women in tech, instead of asking why women in leadership are leaving.
The stories are there, waiting to be written. Most of them only concern a French audience - so when I say @naddymess is the only reputable french tech news site (it’s a parody blog), prove me wrong by writing something that I didn’t also get in press release form in my inbox.
