Lawhorn: Still giving $800 million to higher ed. That's significant for our state. Lots of expensive landscaping on campuses; luxury dorms. Prioritize spending we have.
Stephens: We need to retain more students. Too many leave state after graduation. More transparency to check where the money is going in higher ed.
Fisher: As former schoolteacher, I believe in education. But latest state budget is too large. Nice facilities at bigger schools but the smaller schools don't get as much funding. Find money by cutting non-core functions of government.
Joe Exotic: Legalize marijuana and start getting funding in here. All for higher ed, but I'm for lower education. Open up more trade training/skills. Get people qualified to be in workplace.
Barnett: I love football, but when I see what is being spent on football, coaches, it's got to stop. Don't want to raise tuition if there;s high-paid coaches.
Jones: Need to make sure we provide an affordable education. It's a great equalizer. If expenses on campus aren't worth it, we should get rid of them.
