Under Trump, ICE is dramatically expanding its presence in communities, including at courthouses. As a result, many immigrants are afraid to report crimes and participate in court proceedings.

This chilling effect has been felt in civil and criminal courts across the US.
After surveying 232 law enforcement officers in 24 states, it's clear that ICE's increased presence has consequences:

• 22% said immigrants were less likely to make police reports
•21% said immigrant crime survivors were less likely to help in investigations
ICE's presence at court sends a dangerous message: Seek justice at your own risk.

More than 50% of police surveyed said domestic violence, human trafficking, and sexual assault crimes are now harder to investigate because immigrant crime survivors are afraid to seek assistance.
Courts should be accessible to all members of the public, regardless of immigration status.

54% of surveyed judges reported that cases were interrupted due to an immigrant crime survivor’s fear of coming to court.
ICE's actions are threatening constitutional rights and making our communities less safe — but it doesn’t have to be like this.
