I am at #WHA71, the 71st World Health Assembly @WHO. I see a striking pattern that is a major shift in global health: a greater focus on advancing individual systems of care—for primary health, childbirth, surgery, diagnostics—and not just controlling individual diseases. 1/6
To succeed, “vertical” programs (such as polio eradication, HIV treatment, TB care) commonly worked outside existing medical systems, because they are so broken. Expanding the efforts, however, requires making basic systems work. And the world is starting to define how. 2/6

This morning I've finished Scott Kellys (@StationCDRKelly) Book "Endurance" ( bit.ly/endurance-scot… ). Some thoughts below.
First, thank you Scott for sharing your story along with many personal insights from your time in space. It's great to learn more about the long path to become an astronaut and all the immense effort behind the human space program.
While reading Scotts book I got to understand the scale of the challenges coming with living and working in space better. It starts with having no gravity assisting you with daily life, keeping yourself healthy and alert for the hostile environment you are living in.

1. #Ebola: Big thing to watch in the DRC outbreak is whether #Merck's experimental vaccine gets used. It's the one that was shown effective in a ring trial in West Africa. (And yes, made at Canada's national lab. 🇨🇦)
2. #Ebola: @WHO contact tells me discussions have already begun with DRC about laying the groundwork to use the #Merck vaccine, if it's needed/wanted.
3. #Ebola: DRC had an Ebola outbreak last year around this time and there was a lot of "will they? won't they?" about the #Merck vaccine, which still hasn't been licensed. In the end, the outbreak was contained after only 8 cases & the vaccine wasn't needed.
