I'm not surprised by how few so-called 'progressive' (another meaningless word) male writers/commentators have sided with feminists over their gender self id concerns. To be blunt, a sizeable chunk of Lefty men just don't care enough about things which affect women.
An issue affecting an ethnic minority? No problem. They're there. They'll campaign to the cows come home. Women? Not so much.
I also can't think of a single high-profile gay commentator who has sided with the many lesbians concerned over this. Where's the L solidarity? Really time to drop the L from LGBT.
Re: this "transwomen are women" (repeated ad nauseam) slogan, who are we talking about here? The man who wears make up and a dress but has no intention of transitioning? This group of effeminate (for want of a better word) men seem to dominate this whole debate.
Like the religious convert, they feel the need to exert their new found identity more vociferously and more dogmatically than most. Trans campaigners honestly expect women just to turn around and accept these men as women? Just because.
The word transgender has become a catch all word. And we no longer use the word transexual, which was the correct word for those who did/do transition.
Identifying as trans seems (for the most part) to be the latest fad whipped up by social media. People (many genuinely vulnerable, some with mental health issues) getting themselves in a frenzy, egged by those who should know better.
Re: gender-neutral loos or changing rooms, of course Lefty men don't care. Why should they? They're not the ones affected. Women, stop scaremongering! So long as we're alright and we've got our bogs.
Women now organise meetings (that's right, meetings) in secret for fear of threats, violence and intimidation by trans activists (many, hooded). When the hell was this acceptable? Why are we allowing this to happen? Trans campaigners: you don't like what feminists say? Tough.
In a liberal democracy, women and anyone else, has a right to debate what they want, when they want. Debate. Trans campaigners and allies have no right to tell them what they can and can't say.
Demonstrate, fine. Hold banners, fine. But the moment you try and stop people speaking (blocking doorways, see Bristol a few weeks' ago), you've crossed a line. You do not have a monopoly on free speech. No one does.
And this is without even getting into the scandal that is the medicalisation of 'transgender' children. Worried and scared parents, appallingly advised by self-interested organisations peddling this stuff.
Can you imagine the lawsuits that await in 20-30 years time? See the irresponsible doling out of Ritalin in the US (and here). You are treating kids like an experiment and doing them enormous harm. They are children for heaven sake.
