1/ RIP Tom Wolfe, an American great, a man of letters, a deeply insightful writer with a keen observational sense of both the glories and absurdities of this last century.
2/ I devoured his nonfiction works as a young kid in the late 60s and early 70s. He had such a phenomenal ear for the cadences and characters of the 50s 60s 70s and 80s
3/ The fiction...bonfire, man in full, and even Charlotte Simmons grabbed a mirror and held it up to the times and places and people of which he wrote.
4/ and if you haven't read the Right Stuff, it's hard to imagine another non-fiction book that weaves together so many threads of American history in the 1960s
