This is phenomenally stupid, for about 26 reasons. Here goes: 1) The financial collapse was the result of too many outsized mortgages with problematic terms being sold to people who had no hope of repaying them....
...and then those mortgages being repaid early as a result of defaults, which meant their underlying value was less than what was assumed when securitization took place, which also meant instruments created off the back of them were overvalued.
Plus it was the result of declaring things highly-rated which were in fact comprised of dogshit assets that merely LOOKED safe and diversified bc they'd been shuffled/reshuffled/moved between this pool/that pool so many times no one knew what was in them.
In addition, firms and individual investors over-invested in these dogshit-comprised securities so when the mortgages got repaid early due to defaults, the whole system tanked even faster and worse.
To suggest that none of these things would have occurred were it not for Lehman Brothers is itself ridiculous, especially for a Senator from fucking NEW YORK where the financial sector is based in the US.
It is even more ludicrous to suggest that it wouldn't have happened if girls were in charge, and I say that as a female recovering debt finance lawyer who used to handle securitizations, among other things.
Political humor is admittedly hard, but it's not THIS hard. Good grief.
