SCOOP: It's done. The White House has eliminated the role of cyber coordinator, the top cyber policy job in the administration, responsible for harmonizing all agencies' activities in the cyber domain. subscriber.politicopro.com/cybersecurity/…
In an email to NSC staffers, an aide to John Bolton said that because the NSC cyber team has two senior directors, "cyber coordination is already a core capability."
Quoting Alexander Hamilton in Federalist No. 70, the Bolton aide wrote that "eliminating another layer of bureaucracy delivers greater 'decision, activity, secrecy and despatch.'"
I broke the news last week that the White House was considering this move, instead of replacing @RobJoyce45, who left the coordinator role on Friday: politico.com/story/2018/05/…
Lawmakers, cyber policy experts, and former government officials overwhelmingly opposed eliminating the cyber coordinator role.

Here's the top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee making his case just today.

Here's the co-founder of the Congressional Cybersecurity Caucus reacting to the news

.@SenGaryPeters just asked @SecNielsen about my story from last week that the White House was considering eliminating the cyber coordinator role.

Nielsen: "I have not had a conversation with Ambassador Bolton about that particular issue."

Well, might want to talk to him now...
Sorry, I should have said this was at an ongoing Senate Homeland Security Committee hearing.
Here is the NSC's statement on the elimination of the White House cyber coordinator role.

Like the internal email I reported, it cites the current two senior directors (unusual for an NSC team) and says the goal is reducing bureaucracy.
