Here's what I learned in over 2 decades of running projects - many organisations underestimate the personal drive, loyalty and sense of responsibility that is required. They assume process makes projects run. No. Character does. Projects are run by humans with value systems.
Many young people assume values are soft. And so money is their only route to success.
Money is good. But, the happiest rich people I know have one thing in common. They maintained their core. They are the ones who now have the time to really enjoy their wealth. They don't worry about people trying to kill or steal from them.
They have money and they have peace. They are not trying to buy salvation with some last minute corporate social responsibility programme that lacks depth.
They have family members and friends who want to be with them.
I try as much as I can to teach my mentees character but so many are stubborn. They are like fat people who want to lose weight yet avoid eating less, exercise or surgery. 10 years after, they are still fat.
The cycle of life insists you must learn your lessons. In a few years, you will still take life's exams. Character or the lack thereof will still come back to bite you. Nature is unforgiving. It also has the luxury of one thing you don't - it has time.
