Mariela Castro, daughter of Raul & niece of Fidel, is at the forefront of the movement and has helped make Cuba one of the most nominally progressive countries in the Caribbean for LGBT people. But there are some problems.
Mariela Castro's organization, CENESEX, is the primary vehicle through which LGBT activism can be done. People who work outside the state report being threatened & detained. washingtonblade.com/2017/05/25/exc…

Cohn is right. There's no human right to motorcycles. So why don't we just ban motorcycles? You can make a far stronger case on safety ground for banning ALL motorcycles than you can for not allowing turbaned Sikhs to have a helmet exemption.
Riders without helmets have a 17% chance greater chance of being killed or injured. But motorcyclists are **500%** more likely to be killed than people in cars in Ontario. It's the motorcycle that's dangerous, not the lack of a helmet.
But of course, no one's arguing we should ban motorcycles because as a society we acknowledge that there are some dumb, unsafe things that are also fun. Turbaned Sikhs should also be allowed to participate in those same dumb, fun activities.

What are you talking about? This study says nothing of the sort. In fact, it provides us a better roadmap to distinguish between children who will experience dysphoria throughout their lives vs. those that won't.
Nothing in this study says that positively affirming the gender identity of children will force them into a transgender identity that isn't theirs. All it says is that some kids who exhibit certain traits are less likely to exhibit dysphoria as they grow up.
And while this is a single study with a small sample size, that does seem like useful information to know! However, we also know that not being supportive of youth who identify as trans *regardless of how they'll identify in the future* increases the risk of suicide dramatically.

I'm at Canada Christian College where hundreds of people have come to listen to a panel on the federal trans rights law and "compelled speech." Speaking are Barbara Kay, Lindsay Sheppard, Jared Brown, Deborah Soh & Sarina Singh. My guess is they're not fans of the law.
We're starting with some Jordan Peterson fan fic from Jared Brown, a trial lawyer in Toronto. Compelled speech is totalitarian, he says, and human rights commissions forcing people to use specific pronouns is that.
Brown is now going through a litany of claims that people have brought to human rights commissions, including someone who claimed their gender was "the king." The claim was dismissed. But this is still somehow an indication the system is broken.

Lawrence explicitly overruled Bowers, holding that it had viewed the LIBERTY interest too narrowly. Court held that intimate consensual sexual conduct was part of the LIBERTY protected by substantive due process under the 14th Amendment.
Think about these cases every time #Kavanagh and Republicans say LIBERTY.

They want to overturn ALL #lgbt rights cases.

I'm one of a few million Americans awake when we should be sleeping because of the pain of #cancer or some other chronic illness.

Adding to our sleeplessness is knowing #healthcare is under threat. We may not be able to afford it due to the #GOP's actions.

It's terrorizing.
My parents were Civil Rights workers. My father was a Freedom Rider. As a small child I was taught the legacy of #MLK.
I watched people invoking MLK on Monday. Not in defense of #votingrights or in outrage over how the #SCOTUS ruled on two pivotal cases on gerrymandering.

MLK wasn't being invoked for #votingrights but for Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who lies to America every day about policies that could very well kill me & others.

Policies that are hurting millions.

Policies that have kept me a citizen without equal rights in my own country.

Readers: If you use KU and see authors constantly harping on you to "page to the back to see specials/previews/links" whatever, be advised that means they're trying to get you to basically "read" the book so they get paid for the WHOLE thing, including "extras." #cockygate
Now, not NECESSARILY a nefarious thing, but if a writer does this with ALL their books, and there's LOTS of "stuff" at the back of their books, especially stuff already published, that's indicative of "book stuffing" and it screws OTHER writers in the KU architecture. #cockygate
Because what happens is the KU pot is split up among all the writers by page views. So a scammer makes more for less work over HONEST writers who don't do that shit. #themoreyouknow #cockygate
